What variety is that Crazy Ed?

Here's my Winter Wildlife Crab. Even after the bear tore it up a couple of years ago it continues to be a reliable producer.

My Purdy and Sherry apples are pretty ugly from hail and insect damage:oops:.
I have been enjoying some delicious Asia Pears. This is a Chojuro.

Nice pics Rick. I am looking forward to my grafted winter wildlife tree producing a few apples. It looks like a good one!

Oh, and cherry picking some early Honey Golds! DSCN2492.JPG

The HC's are gorgeous. We just lost to many due to the hail storm though! We got about 20 bushel, but should have had over 100! :(DSCN2460.JPG

These HC's on MM111 had to have 100's of spurs and branches pruned out due to the storm. These are for the deer, but it's hard not to pick out some for sale. The white oak over to the left had it's first crop of acorns this year!!! DSCN2484.JPG

Those are some great looking apples & crabs, guys. It feels good to see the results of all the work doesn't it? I've got to wait another year or two for first apples on our newer plantings, but your pix give me hope for what's to come! Nice job men!

Now here's some good juicy apple porn for you! Honeycrisp!!! Now to go pick my second favorite apple to eat....Macoun!DSCN2494.JPG

Prime looking load there Maya! Hope the Macouns produce well for you. I tried a Macoun once from an orchard in Northern Pa. - but I can't remember what it was like. Sweet, tart, harder, softer??? How would you characterize it, Maya?

They are Macintosh like apple, tart over sweet and pretty much the same type of skin. However, they are much more crisp and haveDSCN2495.JPG a beautiful white flesh that stays white after peeling or biting into much longer than a Mac. This make this a top notch eating apple with very good desert qualities. Excellent for pies. Here's today's Macouns. We should have another 5 bushel for next weeks market.

They are a very hard apple to grow as they are very upright growing. They take a lot of training of the strongest limbs of any apple that I can think of.Excellent apple but it's a lot of work. Not very disease resistant at all.

I have 2 trees of Macouns that have fruit and love them too. I did t pick any yet but based on you harvesting them George I will pick this week. I will also pick the rest of my HC which are very few. My winter banana will also need some picking now also. George I haven't really trained mine and they are doing great and trees are in great shape. I hope to graft more this year cause I love them so much

Macoun have a very short stem. They will pop off and drop early, especially if you don't thin them good. Make sure that there are no apples back to back and spend some time training them. They size a lot better too w/ good thinning. This is even to many. I'd rather see them not touching at all. Despite good thinning you still will get a lot of drops w/ them. DSCN2462.JPG
