Drilling CRP with Genesis drill

omicron1792 We are planting the CRP this weekend. It is going into last years corn stubble. Current plan:
5.5 acres, Genesis drill

Cat litter, 0-20-20 fertilizer, cracked corn for filler.

Planning on 1:1 ration of filler to seed.

Plan to spray imazapic next week after drilling tomorrow. Is https://www.amazon.com/Plateau-Herbicide-Imazapic-native-restoration/dp/B00NB4O9YA the type of herbicide you use?

Not sure how much you need, but here are better prices or smaller quantities.

Thanks! I wondered what a generic option was.

Lots of carriers work but I like to use a mixture of cat litter, 0-20-20, oats, wheat, and corn. I usually use about 50-60lbs or carrier per acre.

Where do you find the 0-20-20 fertilizer? Do you have it custom mixed at the COOP? I searched all our local stores, and they all are heavy on the N.

I’ll probably use some 10-10-10 that I have on hand from 3 years ago (haven’t used fertilizer other than Lime and a bit of Urea for EW in the last few years).

Yes on the herbicide. Any generic imazapic is fine.

Just skip the fertilizer then. Not really needed.

Just capturing what we ended up drilling with the Genesis:

- 4.1 lb/acre CRP mix (included both forbs and short grasses)
- 3 lbs switchgrass
- 20 lbs cat litter
- 10 lbs cracked corn
- 10 lbs 10-10-10 fertilizer
————-
Calibrated to 47lbs/acre

Drilled into corn stock stubble on March 16th. Seemed to go in great.

With rain and my daughter’s wedding, I did not get the imazapic applied yet. Too late to put it down?

No. Put it down.

Sounds like you did a great job! Congrats.

Now be patient! It won’t look like you want it to till year three. If crabgrass and such starts coming in just hit with another 2-4oz of imazapic this fall or early next spring.

With forbs in mix don’t mow this season
