Do you share your land with people outside of your family/owners

I do. But I'm starting to rethink my policy.

I've been the only one to show up here since November. I'm here now alone and it's 92 degrees in the shade.

I whittled one off the list last year when he told me why he voted for Obama the second time. I have a strick Don't feed the liberals policy.

Fill it in with rock. There I helped.

See you on November 3rd.

I've got a spot worthy of your contribution all picked out. See you then.

Unfortunately, I think a lot of us are in a situation where reaching our deer hunting goals depends on limiting human intrusion. At least that's the situation I'm in with my farm. So, I don't want anyone hunting or messing around.

However, in my yard at home I have abundant fruit and other goodies, and all my neighbors know that they are free to pick and eat whatever they want. The IE mulberry tree is a favorite with neighboring kids. And, I might add that I still have plenty of mulberries even now. If anyone is passing through, stop and get all you want. You don't even have to ask, but if you do ask, I will offer you a glass of tea to go with it. Just don't mess with my deer.:D

I keep hunting pretty much limited to family and in some cases I still say NO!

If anyone has some sort of life-long dream/bucket list item to hunt deer in IN (your going to be disappointed) - let me know, but otherwise I hunt 3 folks on a total of 150 acres and that is plenty enough as it is.

Excellent point. I have lots of rocks in my plots. i am going to put up a 'pick your own rocks' sign from March 1 through the 30th. I hope its popular!

Funny, back at our farm in Nowthen, we sold every rock we picked. Could never get them Harry homeowners to pick them for us though!

Sounds like we know what BJE80 is going to be doing! Pick'n rocks and fix'n access roads!!!!!

We have some friends that we let hunt, but we have enough deer that a little help with the does is welcomed. It's tough, though, because as the number of the hunters in the family goes up, the number of friends getting to hunt will have to go down (my kids are starting to hunt now). We have old friends that have a green light on whatever makes them happy (they are electricians and have helped with numerous jobs around the farm over the decades they've been hunting the farm), friends that can shoot a buck if it meets standard (a good friend and his son who will help with anything we ask), and doe only friends (they also help and always provide some venison treats after season). All guests are scheduled in terms of which days they can hunt, and we tell them which spot to sit. The way our farm "hunts", a few hunters at a time is all we can do, so we have to be a bit OCD about things. All our guests know the deal, and don't take anything for granted, but it's pretty much a firm "no" on all new requests.

Not at all interested in anyone hunting on my land unless they get their ass up there and do some work, offer to buy some screws or boards to build a stand, or maybe even a 6 pack of PBR. We do have some decent land, and some of the guys we hunt with are too selfish to pick up a frickin stick, let alone do any real work. I let them hunt once and they shot a small 8pt and then never offered to help once before or after that. No way in hell they are getting out there until it changes. My brother does bring some big gay guy from Nebraska, but I knew that was the deal way back when we bought.

Me, myself and I hunt the property. My son can hunt but, he only gets here for a day about every three years so I don't even count that. If I feel the need to take more doe than I have tags for, I hire an experienced sharpshooter at the end of the season who's identity and time on the property are highly secretive.

No.

While blood is in fact thicker than water, deer hide is thicker than blood. We haven't let anyone from outside the two of us hunt except an extra brother and a good friend. Non-owners have got to be with the program, whatever that program may be for the year. First time, or never shot a deer? Ok, kill what you want (if we've got a decent population). Killed plenty before and don't eat venison? Wall hangers only, etc.

I've got other really good friends, but hunting isn't important enough to them to bring them up and risk knocking our plan off course. We can find other ways to kill time. Case of beer and a couple folding chairs in the garage will do just fine. I had a friend help me with tree planting last year because my brother was at home sticking a thermometer in his mud hole every twelve hours checking to see when he could plant corn. Instead of repaying with hunting privledges, I gave my buddy some extra trees and the materials to get them protected. I drove up to his property a couple hours in the wrong direction from my route and helped him get those in.

In the end, it's not about hoarding the deer for ourselves, it's about protecting and rebuilding the herd so we can sustainably harvest again some day.

I hunt on my father in law 's land...wait a minute that is the other side of the coin of the original a question.

I do help out, shovel manure etc. He doesn't hunt much himself anymore and thinks it funny I spend money planting food plots.

I have a nephew and his son that hunted, 2 years ago, I told him and his son where to stand, trail cameras showed he did not stay there. He is done. My dad and my 2 uncles do not hunt , 2 are passed, the other has not hunted since 2005. My 1 uncles son has hunted on the farm since he was 12, now 53, never has helped with anything, about time to say adios. The only good thing, he will only shoot a mature buck. He has gone to Alaska, Montana, BC, but has never asked for me to go with.

At the sink and over the stove? :D

I let a guy from this forum come and hunt one of the best spots in Missouri we have. When we talked before, He seemed like a good guy that worked hard. And he was a good guy! I don't let strangers come hunt all the time, but it was a lot of fun.

I did work the piss out of him while he was there for a couple days also! Had too, that's the rules. Ain't nothing free!

HAHA
shoot that wasnt work that was the fun stuff;) Wish I was closer I would give you much more frequent labor. Mo treated me like Gold up at his place. Hope I can get my place to the point where I can accommodate guests and return the hospitality!

As far as the original post I occasionally have guests that aren't family but not to often. My father an brother are always welcome. I can't wait till my 3 boys are old enough to start slaying deer. That's why I'm passing doe's now cuz the deer herds gonna be in trouble in 5 years!!!

This post put a smile on my face lol

If you dont help and you are not family you can't get in. Unless you want to sit with a gunner and watch. It's not hoarding. Its protecting an investment where there is not enough to go around right now.

I've had a hell of a time getting people willing to show up off-season to do anything to earn a spot in season. That's part of my issue with my noobs - they'll show up for a day to work. It's tricky scheduling it, but they do come with gloves and boots on. If I rotate them out after they shoot deer, I'll have no help (outside of other friends who know who they are :) ).

I'm a greedy sharer. Very selective, and it's not unconditional. You have to hunt my rules too.

I have always had people asking if we have room.

There are a lot of the weekend warriors that have the mentality that deer just move in and replenish at will as you put em down.
