I’m seeing a few on camera and running through the fields. I hope to get out this afternoon to enjoy the cold front that came in. I saw over 40 during a mid-Missouri hunt last weekend.
I've seen fewer this year in Ohio. I suspect the corn harvesters are getting more efficient. I used to see leftover corn all over the fields, but the fields I checked out recently had almost nothing left on the ground.
I'm 100% sure there are more hunter than there used to be. It seems every field has a blind in it now, and the amount of property available for us to hunt is about 10% of what it used to be.
I still see a lot of dead deer along the roads, so I don't think numbers are down. I think their behavior has shifted in response to the change in circumstances.
The number of deer we saw his year was down quite a bit from last year. My Sept camera surveys were pretty close normal. We had a big acorn crop. Not really sure what the deal is

Numbers are down significantly in my local area. I probably have 20% of the deer I did 2 years ago. The normal spots I would see them when driving are usually vacant now. Felt like I hardly saw more than a few roadkills during the rut this year. Kind of depressing, but I feel like they will recover given enough time. If not I will focus on raising turkeys and quail.
