Dad always told me....

Deer will gravitate to a nasty old pond rather than drinking out of a clear stream. By the looks of this pond, I think he was right....

Man, I don’t know what it is about small little muddy puddles... but I love them.

Dad was right! Green nasty water seems to be like ale to a deer.

Same thing here

Its a universal rule, I've watched deer drinking from a dirty puddle on a gravel road 20 feet from a clear flowing stream...

I think they like the taste of mosquito larvae! In all seriousness, moving water creates noise and air currents that compromise a deer's best defenses. I'm sure it's an evolutionary adaptation that deer which choose still waters live longer and procreate more successfully.

I get the same out of the koi pond we put in, sometimes in late summer it looks like pea soup and they seem to love it for some reason.

I’m just imagining the deer being like wine snobs-“ This one is a bit earthy, with muddy overtones “...
