Cuddeback's Cuddelink

Today was only the second time I didn’t get my morning report or pics. I assume if there is a signal issue when it tries to send it must not try again? Thinking of trying the high gain antennas.
What did your last report show on batteries? It has to be related to power, signal or cell plan.

Last year there were several times I didn't get my daily report. It usually coinsided with bad weather. This year I have the high gain antennas and I haven't missed a report yet, even on the few bad weather mornings.

Still ok on the externals.

My iPhone battery will last most of the day within good signal area. But when I’m out of coverage area and it searches and searches for signal the battery will be dead in 2-3hrs not using it. CS verified that is the same situation with Cudde Cell. Trying to connect takes a lot of power. So if you are on the edge of coverage and signal going and coming, best to have some external power. This unit is basically like a camera, cell phone and a walkie-talkie that stays on 24/7. Gonna use some power.

I was told it doesn’t stop trying to send report. Do you normally have goog cell signal there?

Only been two days in a month it failed. The transmitter is 10 feet up a tree on a ridge, I thought it had good service, though it is a distance to the tower and foliage has increased since it was hung.

Cellular is funny animal. I was at grand daughters ball game and I was the only one there that did not have service. They throttle service back etc.

10ft High?? Wow, how’s is that working out? Got it aimed at a feeder?

The K is bigger in size, the location where the external power source is. I am not sure what the voltage is on the K series, i called Cuddeback support and they didnt have the voltage info for me. I dont install D batteries in my G cams. I made my own battery box last November with a solar panel. That was the last day i ever worried about battery life. I have said this before The G series Cuddeback is a great camera once you fix the battery life issue. I understand the cuddelink being active take power i found my own fix for it.
I made my own also, I think its stupid to run 10 D batteries when I can run a 6v 12ah battery as long if not longer than the D's plus I can recharge it and not have to constantly buying batteries. I don't run the solar panel, but might try it on a few

Home unit. Not camera. Hung high for maximal signal.

Still ok on externals a month in. Not a power issue.

So thre unit is set to send every 12 hours, typically I get the report and pics 4-6am and pics 6pm. Tonight I got the morning reports and pics all at 6pm. So clearly it stops trying at some point and seems at the next time internal.

The key if you are in marginal cell service is to make sure you have high gain antennas , put the cell unit in the best possible location on the property and be aware of weather conditions.
High humidity and leaf cover will restrict the cuddelink rf signal but this will improve dramatically in low humidity and after leaf fall. We are approaching the most challenging time of year which is July and August , if you have a good signal this time of year it will only improve during other periods of the year.

Is it a SLA battery? How long is it lasting?

Yes SLA
Life depends on how many pics just like any other battery but I feel it doubles the life of the D’s with battery pack

I do not believe the 12ahr SLA will last as long as 15ahr to 20ahr D’s powerpack. Actually 2 battery packs with that amount each. But recharging is advantage. And I can understand advantage 1 big battery vs 4 to 10 little batteries. And solar charging is key to keeping the SLA charged. I may be wrong but I don’t believe SLA is designed to be drained very low or dead. I believe you’re suppose to maintain the SLA above 70% or more. If so, adding solar will solve that.

When I go solar, I’m just going to add rechargeable 10ahr D- cells($5ea) and add a solar panel.

I can't help but think that the new Cuddelink battery solutions for 2019 will entail big bricks of 18650 li-ion rechargables, or similar. These cells hold a lot of energy.

How many Volts and mAhr on 18650?

I will work on this and if an administrator sees fit to make it sticky that will work great.
I’ll second that recommendation.

I do the same with my Cell Home units stand on the front of my 4 wheeler and put it up as high as I can.
To get it out of the line of sight to keep theft down ( I am hoping ) and in hopes to get a better signal as you said.

Go to photo icon at bottom of your home page. Double click on the photo you are interested in. When it opens up look at the top bar. You will see box with a circle and a small i in it. Click on this and your data will come up

Ok, on my MacBook, I downloaded a couple of pics to Photo folder, opened the “i” and this is all I see. I don’t see all the “metadata”? that I was expecting. Is it a Mac problem?
