Coyote or Coydog or ?

Hard to say. There are definitely areas where melanistic coyotes are pretty common. With that said, the head looks a little too round for a pure coyote in my opinion.

This is the first time I've seen this one or anything like it. Maybe it'll stick around.

"Eastern coyote". Probably has both wolf and domestic dog genetics.

We have killed black ones before. But with this one having a blaze chest probably dog mix.

Was he already in the water and that's part of why he looks so dark?

It's possible but the direction it came from wasn't through any water. Thick though so could have been wet grass etc.
Tonight I will have to try to find a video of one from awhile back that I thought was so cool looking. Maybe it's the same one or similar- just under better lighting..I think even during the day. So wouldn't look as dark.

The one I was thinking of looks nothing like the above. Maybe it'll be on one of my cams again one of these days.

Throwing this out there. The animal that "screams" just before that canid runs away is 100% a fox. I'm going with grey fox. Doesn't look like a coyote much to me at all. The way it's moving, looking around, and the way it scurries away suggests fox. And using some of the other animals to compare its relative size I'd say that's a pretty small animal.

Funny this, I got this photo this morning but didn't know it.
Seeing just the tiny thumbnail on my phone I said "Is that a golden retriever?"

As for the video, I think he was more spooked by the light than anything else. (even if it was mostly UV)
