Columnar oak?

Not sure if this is one, at my kids school but wow it dropped a pile of acorns for such a small size? Any thoughts?

Looks like it has some bur in it and maybe swamp white.
That would be a schuette's or what some call a swamp bur.
Atleast it looks like it from here.
Do the undersides of the leaves feel velvety? Stalks on the acorn caps?

Not a columnar; however, a Great habitat tree. Probably less than 10 yrs (small caliper) and throwing good quantities of acorns. Check the other trees in the school yard and plant a few at your deer site. Congratulations!

P.S. 2 things that are very nice about that tree ... you can pick acorns right off the tree ... can't get any fresher then that and you avoid any potential contamination from ground contact

Angus 1895 ... those are a cross between a columnar English oak and a white oak ... some are known as a Crimson Spire. I have a group of 8 that kept all their leaves last 2 winters ... unusual
Bluestone ... beyond the F1 hybrid, the offspring may be columnar or you may occasionally get a reversion to the non-columnar parent (swo or Eo) .... I've got a couple of examples at one property; I'll try to

Thanks. Some pictures would be awesome. The next closest town to me has lined their Main Street with columnar oaks and they have se a good mast crop this year and was planning on picking a few up to start and was hoping some would continue that columnar habit.

What’s the deal with the leaves?

Some english get mildew on their leaves. Usually doesn't cause a problem, but that's the worst case I've seen.
