Clover plot help please!!

My clover plot is going into year 3 and as green up is happening, I am seeing cool season grasses and Brown nutsedge. I did a lot of reading over the weekend on how to remove it from the plot and here is what I came up with. Please let me know your thoughts.

At a temp of 65-75 degrees, I will spray the cool season grasses first with a mix of 16oz cleth, 2 pints crop oil and 20 gallons of water. This will cover my 1 acre of clover.

In 7-10 days, I will mix 1.33 oz of Sledgehammer, 8 oz of Non-ionic Surfactant and 20 gallons of water to spray the 1 acre targeting the Brown nutsedge.

I know both chemicals take time to do their job so I need to be patient. Hopefully, I get a good kill on the plot and the clover starts to fill in. In the area of the grass and sedge, there is clover popping up but it needs more room to grow.

You are on the right track, but how many gallons does it take to spray your one acre plot? I do think you are heavy on your cleth if the grasses are young.

My 25 gallon sprayer covers 1 acre if I got at 4-5 mph. I can back the cleth down to 12 oz.

Probably not of interest to your situation but when I have stuff competing with my clover I just lightly disc the plot and the clover rebounds great while the other things are set back from the discing. Clover loves abuse. jmo

Interesting observation. I will keep that in mind!!

If you plan to spray, I would use your chemical rates at 25 gallons instead of 20 gallons since you cover 1 acre with 25. I have always used NIS instead of crop oil with clethodim, so not sure if its effectiveness is better with crop oil. I have not sprayed Sledgehammer but agree with using the NIS with it as well.

Sedgehammer and other sedge killing chemicals take several days to see results. It turns yellow first, then it browns & wilts dead. I've killed yellow nutsedge in our lawn with them. You should get a good kill.
