Catscratch House and Habitat build

Beets and corn were a flop! Quite a bit came up but it's been grazed heavily. Lots of P. Amaranth has come up with it. Deer love it too so oh well. I'll probably disc it after the Palmer flowers amd start again this fall.

Apples, pears, and sandplums are already weighing heavily. Lots of bent and sagging limbs. No guarantees fruit will make it to maturity, but if it does I bet we get some broken up trees.

And I'm pretty sure I know this buck. Seems like he walked under me every time I hunted last fall and I just didn't think much of him. But I found his sheds and in hand he looked pretty good. Will have to see what develops this season.

I am going to be field trialing a commercial deer repellent here in the next few weeks on some soybeans. The deer tend to wipe them out fast once they germinate if I don't e-fence them. Which I can do, but its a hassle to put up and take down the fence. I will report back if the product works decently. A friend of mine that works for Fish and Game says one of the best chemical deterrents they found was spraying the liquid from fermenting cedar branches in a trash can full of water in the hot Summer sun for a couple of weeks. We were talking about deterring deer from browsing on young shrubs.

Yes, please do report! Sounds promising!

Lol, woke up with 30 cows in the yard and plots. No big deal, but they did hit the milo and sunflowers pretty hard. Trailcam said they'd been out since 1am. Called the lessee, put them back to pasture and fixed fence.

This afternoon while at basketball games I start getting pics of 30 cows camped in my plots. Completely destroyed what was left from this morning... and didn't even poop in them much to say thanks! Once a cow decides they can get through a fence it has to be pretty damn solid to keep them from doing it again!

I respect you saying LOL but those would not have been my words. Seems it would be time to get sideways

Cattle get out sometimes. I'm not worried about it, nor upset. Fence wasn't neglected, and the lessee was here within 20 minutes of my text. They're good people. I've been in charge enough times when something went sideways that I can recognize neglect. This wasn't that. Plus, I've had cattle get out... neighbors just pen them up and let you know, or run them back through the fence and patch it good enough to hold until you can fix it. I've been shown kindness enough times to pass it forward when I get the chance.

Disced, broadcasted, dragged. The cattle plot is new again. Mostly milo and sunflowers, with some extras thrown in (pumpkins and be sweet soybeans) for fun.

This particular company uses unicorns for scarification. Once they come out the poop end they are colored like that.

Actually I have no clue. Probably fungicide and insecticides? Seed was given to me to play with. I didn't ask questions.

We use Sasquatch in East Texas for scarification

thanks

bill
Sasquatch eat unicorns so we've eradicated them in KS. But... there's rumor that some pride guy from CO has plans to drop a bunch of them off at undisclosed locations at unnamed dates. Something about restoring their majestic presence and beavers.

I’m not sure if different colors mean different things, but my soybeans this year were pink and I ordered them with inoculant only. None of the other garbage.

I love that I'm always surprised at how quickly seed will germinate and grow. The "cow" plot is on it's way.

Fish were biting today. Lots of nice ones. No big ones though.

And a turtle nest.

You think those eggs hatched? Or predated? Haven’t seen any little ones on the move, but I’ve seen a lot of adults on the roads lately.
