Lol, you joke but I've been a big fan of insects for a long time. When I was young and running a greenhouse we used predatory wasps to eliminate pest insects instead of insecticides. I truly believe dung beetles do improve the overall ecology/habitat, which makes for bigger bucks! Now to go with your idea. I'll market them, you catch the beetles and their dung... we'll split 80/20. :)

Spent the weekend in Nebraska for the kid's graduation. Just got home and found sunflowers are up! It was dry and hot all week, but must have been enough moisture when I planted to do the job. Plus we have rain coming this afternoon. I'm pretty stoked. I love sunflowers!

Driving 12 hrs through the KS and Nebraska made me think of just how much herbicide we use on farm ground. Its a lot. I certainly question the long term affects on ecology and food nutrition.

No. 135 through Salina, then west. I've taken 77 plenty of times though. I like to take it to get to Manhattan and Wamego.

When you drive by Geary State Fishing Lake right on 77, you are about 2 miles from my place. Gives a good sense of the terrain we are in.

That's a beautiful area! If I remember right that's the lake you can see from the highway a little ways south of Junction. I love that drive in the fall. From Cassody north is gorgeous terrain.When you drive by Geary State Fishing Lake right on 77, you are about 2 miles from my place. Gives a good sense of the terrain we are in.

Hastings and Grand Island. Went to school in Hastings and has gotten a job and apartment in GI.

Ahh, not too far from our family farm up there. Most of my family lives about an hour more less west of Hastings. Hastings is a decent mid size town. Other than the state fair in GI and the horse track, I have never been much of a fan of that town. I guess Hornaday is based there so that is a check in the positive column.

I've liked Hastings the few times I've been there. GI seems like it's mostly just a place to work.
Driving south from Hastings the country is very beautiful, gets a little hilly and just pretty. What's it like out west where your family lives?
The boy has fished quite a bit up there. Usually stocked ponds for trout. He really wants to figure the fishing out up there, any suggestions?

Our farm sets in a valley, created by Tukey Creek go figure ...LOL. Otherwise yes right around there it is rolling hills. You get about 10 miles north from there and you hit the Platter River "floodplain" which is miles and miles of flat as a pancake country. That is where I80 runs so people that travel the state think that Nebraska is one of the flattest places on earth. However in reality its just the part that the pavement pounders see. There are a few lakes around. Harlan County Reservoir it is 5 minutes from our farm up there, it is the 2nd largest lake in the state. Its a bit of an hour drive over there from Hasting probably. One of my good friends is a die hard fisherman and catches a lot of fish on Harlan. It can be more a boat fishing lake. However, I have done well fishing off the face of the dam which is rock rip rap and in the harbors. The Platte River has some decent catfish but I have never personally fished it.

I'll let the kid know about Harlan. I drove over the Platte this weekend, looked dry as a bone. He really wants to catch trout, or pike, or musky, or whatever we don't have in KS.

I think they have stocked some Musky in the sandpit lakes along I80. Otherwise he will pretty much have to go up to the Valentine National Wildlife Refuge lake to catch Pike and Musky I believe. There is a trout stream or 2 up in the northern sandhills area of the state. Otherwise the only trout are those that are hatchery stocked for Winter fishing.

I caught trout up by Chadron many years ago. Not sure of their native status.
I also spent a few months pre-deployment in Hastings. Met up with a Reserve unit there and we trained at the National Guard facility before heading out. Lots of fun was had in that little town.

"Lots of fun was had in that little town." - I bet! It's a nice little place with what looks like a hopping night life. The boy has a few places he goes out to at night.
It's interesting, every time I'm there I see several classic old hotrods driving around. Not just old cars, but really nice old cars. And it seems like I see a hand full of Porsches and other newer high end sports cars often.

Quite a number of classic car clubs in that area of the state. Lots of car shows in the Summer months.
