Catscratch House and Habitat build

No way to really know. The place was cow heavy this yr so there wasn't a lot of fuel load like there would be with running summer stockers. A patchy mosaic is the best way I can describe it. Everything that would burn did burn.

The woods and shrubby areas are what I'm the most happy with. Going to be a ton of fresh browse pop up! And I believe that browse is way better for growing big bucks than non-burned browse.

We could use some rain. Ponds are getting awfully dry for spring.

That's a long dock ramp. And dad's decoy spread hasn't floated in quite some time.

Cat, I don't remember how deep is your pond at the deepest?

This is my dad's pond. We swim in it a lot, probably 7-8' in the middle when full. He stocks it with hybrid bluegill and channelcats every few yrs.

One less deer roaming around. And one more teenager without wheels for a few days.

Your teenager?

Yeppers! He wants to weld up a big ass bumper and grill guard for it (after we pull some metal around and replace a couple of parts). I'm picturing Mad Max type of thing.

Deer I'm guessing, I hope your son wasn't hurt.

He's fine. Made good choices. A diesel coming at him, ditch to the left, deer darting between him and the truck. Didn't flinch or swerve, just hit the deer and took care of things afterwards.

He did the right thing. I've seen so many times people try to swerve, end up losing control & in the ditch and rolling over. One time many years ago I was behind a woman who swerved for a squirrel. She ended up rolling over when she hit the ditch. She had minor injuries but her kid broken a leg and arm and had internal injuries.

Yea good choice. Taught my kids that the 1st day of driving, you don't swerve to miss anything small and furry. (or even medium sized and furry). There is only one of you and God made lots of small furry things.

Thanks guys. I was proud of him. Sometimes you KNOW what to do... but instinct takes over and a flinch happens. He did well.

Good to hear he's OK. Could have been much worse. A few years back here, a hit deer came through the windshield & kicked the driver to death - for real.
