Catscratch House and Habitat build

Your pond is really cool. How old is the pond and how much has it silted in over the years? That recent picture of the lower water before the recent rain makes it look like some silt has been pushed into the pond from the creek.

My neighbor built a pond by building a dam across a valley that has a seasonal creek in it. It is pretty crazy to see how much silt and sand has filled in his small pond in the last few years, but that is a tiny 1/4 acre pond so a little silt/sand makes a pretty noticeable difference.

I'm not sure exactly how old it is. I think 30-35yrs.

Yes, it has had some erosion problems. The north bank has had some issues. We get a lot of south wind that causes waves to lap onto the north shore. It's also a cattle pasture so when they drink hooves mess up the shore. A couple of years ago I dumped several hundred tons of rubble and rock along that erosion which has helped a ton. Luckily the main basis is still good.

The wife got us a new puppy. She's been giving her antlers (spikes) for toys in her pen. She shows a lot of interest in this yrs shed pile. Pretty sure she's going to make an awesome hunting dog! (If the little gal can run through anything taller than freshly mowed grass)

Looks to be a man-eater, Cat!!

Did you have a layer of ice on the pond when the water came running in? And if so, did it all pop up or stay down there?

I don't think we had ice when it rained and filled up. The pic with ice was the only one I had that showed how low it was. If we had ice it was thin.

Got mineral freshened today.
Plots are greening up.
And every once in a while you get lucky enough that the knife you left on the tailgate falls in the road instead of the pasture.

To each their own.... I can't come to like any little dog. I was at Pheasant Fest/ Quail Classic this weekend and I was in love there! Lots of dogs, lots of well behaved dogs. The 2 rats we have living in our house make me curse "canines" every day. I told my wife when I got home I am almost positive that I did not hear a single dog bark during the 7 hours I was there. The ones in our house never shut up.

You guys are greening up nicely. We are still as brown as can be here.

Ya, I've never liked a little dog my whole life. Wife never pursued one because she knows I didn't care for them. This one won me over though.

Yes, we're greening up great! Some trees are blooming too. Allergies here I come!

I saw one of my bee hives was very active today. The maples are probably blooming, but not sure on anything else.

Maybe I remember this wrong... are you still doing bees or are getting out of that stuff?

Oh we still have bees. I am just a low maintenance kind of bee keeper. I am not going to treat hives for mites. If they make it, they make it. Luckily I have a neighbor not too far away that has bees and hers tend to throw 2-3 swarms a year that end up in my hives.
