Can't have nothing

That makes me feel bad for complaining about my troubles.
The crazy thing is that snow can actually give an "igloo effect" and insulate blooms from freezing temperatures. In my case it probably isn't much, but at the critical threshold it might be just enough to save a few blooms. We were right at the 90% kill temp.

My two figs got hammered as usual. They will re-leaf and have one fruit crop instead of two.

My Eliza’s Choice crab apple got hit pretty hard. I have a grand daughter named Eliza is why I bought the the tree in the first place. It either gets hit by a late freeze or the fruits turn yellow and shrivel in the summer drought. Never got a mature fruit off it

Gonna have to get you some real late awakening trees like Turning Point...it was almost 80 here on Tuesday...22 this morning. I feel your pain...
thankfully my trees stayed dormant and hopefully will for at least a couple more days...more roller coaster temps coming next week....
It was 60 Sunday, Monday severe thunderstorms with an all day tornado warning, which then turned to sleet and snow overnight. snow squall yesterday afternoon and 23 this morning. 63 by Friday. Need to get my frost seeding and tree trimming done!

just graft and top work them into submission..i now cage any I find in my upper field to get them some height so I can frankentree them! (i understand you probably have alot more than i do)
My dad has a bunch around his house that I'm going to attempt this with.

Hoping your conditions improve & you get some fruit, Swamper. Tree looks good overall.

Yes - the tree looks really healthy, puts on good growth - the timing has just not been favorable

Still have the potential for frost for several weeks653055735_1513773683445219_6699593204861959957_n.jpg

80 degrees on Wednesday , rain and snow Thurday , Frost this morning. Some of My pear trees were blossing out , so we shall see if I get a crop.
Last year my Apple trees and Crabs got hit by a late frost. Every year it's something !

Years ago, I planted several oddball pears which were purportedly heavily fruiting, asiatic varieties featuring round, 1 1/2 -2" fruit. Ideal for deer, or so I thought. Unfortunately, they are a variety that habitually blooms very early at my latitude. As in too damn early. Consequently, I get a decent crop of pears from these trees approximately one year in five. Most of the time they freeze out.

Walked out some of my trees today. winter wildlife, dolgo, and macoun seem to be awekening up arlier than the rest. A few days ago walked by cranberry, chestnut, trailman, and kerr are awekning up. Franklin cider didnt look too far behind. Enterprise and sweet 16 are nice n asleep here in NY zone 5/6.

Pears do great here 4 out of 5 years with one exception. Frost pockets are devastating on them. Apple production is also affected by frost pockets but not to the extent of pears. I've seen some big, nice mature pear trees not fruit for 10 years, despite the fact that they are covered with flowers. Persimmons are the key for these places. They flower so late they are seldom affected.
