Can't have nothing

Probably my oldest tree in my Hunting Plot , a Kieffer Pear tree from Lowes was loaded with small pears about the size of a fingernail when I drove past on Monday. Today they are just about all gone !, I only counted 3 small pears left. My Dr Deer Pear trees were wiped out too. In the same plot last fall I had pictures of Racoons in my 30-06 crabapple tree . I'm thinking it's most likely Racoons or Squirrels I saw Squirrels raiding my front yard pear trees last summer .

I got the big live trap out , and will put a trail cam out soon to figure out what type or varmit I have. Whatever it is, they are getting a early start this year. Frost was my biggest problem, I think this is even worse.

Story of my life - coons, possums, and squirrels. To add to it this year, Pretty sure I damaged all my peach trees spraying copper. Hope they come out of it.

Fruit trees are the devil

Yeah, I've all but given up on fruit trees. It's black bears for me that are my nemesis.

Fruit trees are way more interesting than italian rye. The best bets is to plant a few trees early in the game, then focus on good plots. Leveled, good pH, good south light.

Im new to young trees. But, I see alot of trees on here not that well pruned. Chop back that new growth 30-50% for 5 years. Grow some strong branches. IF possible delay fruitiing on a tree to let it grow some strong branches.

I pick off flowers by hand. This may be my last year before having to do it chemcally. Here's a bit on chemical thinnig. I seem a bit squeamish on using sevin. I got to look at my layout how close group 2,3 and 4 trees are together. Just dont want to harm bees.

After a trip to camp this spring, I see sapsuckers have hammered a couple of our apple & crab trees. 2 may not make it since the sapsuckers have all but girdled the trunks to the point of bark falling off. Then we have bears to contend with. If it's not one thing - it's another. 😡

Ya I have four plums that are getting fairly big and produce a lot. I need to pick them before they're ripe if I want any because the trees will be loaded and when I come back a week later they're all gone. I need to see if someone wants to trap in the area. I'm an hour away so I wouldn't be able to check them soon enough. I have 4 big fat raccoons I get on trail camera all the time.
