burr oak seedlings

I have approximately 500 burr oaks seedlings in my yard. I do not know if they can be removed with a trowel? Any takers?

I used to do the work with them myself. I did it because I couldn't see mowing off all those oaks. It took me a while to realize I could do more for the species by simply buying seedlings for a couple bucks a piece and spending my time more efficiently by planting vs transplanting.

I have only tried a few, but have had poor luck. They have a long tap root that I kept cutting off.

I have very poor luck with any oak that I plant.

I have some of those Morse hybrids that again died back to ground level. They have been in the ground for 10 years or so and I think 5% survived to only die back.
