Brown Top Millet help

New here but been hanging out since I found Yall. Question: Will Brown Top Millet reseed itself with my situation. I sowed 2 ac. Dang its coming up crazy! My primary objective was to grow something to overtake a field choked in poison hemlock, and before Dove season bush hog 2 strips down it and hunt it. This is in Central Kentucky and first-time growing Millet.

Will what I leave standing reseed itself and help control the hemlock next year? Attached is pics, sowed, week 1, week 2
Thanks!

Mine regularly reseeds itself. It will probably reseed this fall if timely rain, but probably frosted on before it makes viable seed. It will reseed next spring - but probably with a lot of crabgrass also

Yes. You’ll get some reseeding. Would still plant some at lower rate in same field though.

Sounds good, will do! When do recommend? Like a frost seed in the early spring broadcasted? And Im assuming not to till up the ground again next year? I made that mistake last year. Sowed winter wheat, grown amazing. Then in September somebody said till it up and sow oats for the deer. Huge mistake! Oats got about a inch tall and come November the field was nothing but Jimsonweed. Made me sick.

Like I said my main goal is to choke out a bad poison hemlock "infestation" and still reclaim the land with something positive for wildlife. Maybe there is something better to sow? My thoughts with millet was to not only choke out the hemlock but feed turkey, quail, and dove. Yet still be able to use 2,4,D when needed. Im going on my 3rd year owning this property and trying to reverse a lot bad years of poor farming practices from the past. This ridge/field is my next mission.
Thanks!

i wouldnt frost seed - I would spread any extra seed after all chance of frost. The fall reseeding will be primarily millet, he millet that comes back in the spring will be very weedy - at least mine is - a ton of crab grass with it. If you are wanting to dove hunt it - the millet that comes back in the spring - the seeds are browning out now - too early for doves - in my opinion. He indigo buntings are tearing it up right now.

Awesome!! Killer info! Thank you! I’m tracking…

Honestly crab grass would be so much better than the hemlock. It’s a real problem here in my neck of the woods. I understand it’s a biannual so staying on top of it is a must. Just looking for a good crop to smother and to keep it a bay.

This grass is some brown top millet that volunteered in a sunflower field where the deer ate out an opening. Brown top last year in this field. Sprayed round up in prep for sunflowers. Then sprayed cleth over knee high flowers to kill the grass. Still this millet is fighting through
