There ain't enough meat on them little things to justify baiting them up.

I feed the birds year round at my home. I have 2 humming bird feeder, 2 seeders and a post with nails that I place oranges on for the Oreilles. Don't feed at the cabin as I just don't get up there enough to keep them full. What I am doing at the cabin is attempting to get a good stand of mulberry and elderberry trees going for the birds, and any other critters that may benefit from them. I'm also looking into blueberries. I'll probably pen\cage those up though. I enjoy BB too much to let them go to the birds.

I built 15 bluebird house this past winter also. About half of them are being used by their intended residents.

I used to but the bugs and mice it attracted turned me off on it. I'd like to do it again but this time the feeders will be placed much further from the house.

I have in the past. Enjoy watching them. Though I have found with a water source and good habitat (mixture of woody vegetation around the house) I dont have to bother with feed. Feed here just draws a crap load of squirrels both tree and ground which just cause me damage.

We just noticed a few hummingbirds around the house in the last couple of weeks and the wife said she wants a feeder put up for them. Very cool little birds and faster than crap!
We have a regular bird feeder just a couple feet outside the family room window that the local birds and squirrels/chipmunks use to entertain us year round.

I just do the nectar.
Ants were a problem until I put granular insecticide in the grass under the feeders.

If you do, don't waste any $ on nectar. 4 cups warm water, 1 cup of sugar. No food coloring needed.

We have humming bird feeders and lots of humming birds. They are a blast to watch. I also have a seed feeder. Great bait for plucking of the chipmunks.

We feed the hummingbirds but have to pull our seed feeders once the bears come out of hibernation in the spring. I've tried every contraption I can think of to prevent bears from destroying my feeders but they somehow find them and pull them down.

Yes and no - my wife feeds the squirrels that we raised and released last fall and as such the birds get their share as well.

We where told to make food available thru the first winter to ensure the newly released squirrels had some means of food. Both came thru winter just fine and they now live in the tree line behind the house. They still reside in the nesting boxes we put out for them when we released them. I figured they would move off but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Ha! I knew you were keeping those squirrels :). At least there not in the house.
Curious are they cautious of you or do they remember the hand feeding.

They run! Just like we wanted. They are as wild as any other. As they got older they made a hell of a mess in the house for being such little critters. It was fun while it lasted however.

We have a humming bird feeder and a seed feeder but only fill the seed feeder in the winter because of bears. Seems like squirrels get most of the seed though.
