I posted this in my Deertopia thread.....but it fits this discussion well. I'm kinda excited about gaining about 10 acres of prime bedding land via the big power line ROW that cuts across the very southern end of my property. This spring I was able to flail mow a series of trails in this ROW (many of which do not show in this picture......(but they are there) and after mowing them down....I applied a heavy dose of roundup and 24d to kill all the grasses and vegetation. These "trails" will encircle some of the shrubs and vegetation to provide some great bedding cover....and serve as a screen to allow the deer to cross the power line with a degree of security.
I did a second app of gly just before drilling switchgrass screens in these trails. I got high hopes that this will become some of the best bedding and it also provides the deer an access from a huge tamarack swamp to my land.....and my food plots. There is also always standing water in the lowest parts. I also gained a site for a blind that can overlook this whole she-bang (at the top right of the first pic). it's gonna be golden when it's done. It may turn out to be the best improvement I have ever accomplished on this property. If I am successful with my methods this year (and I feel certain I am).....I will do lots more next year to improve this site.

Going to place an elevated box blind just behind where I’m sitting here in my tractor. Can look over lot of land here and be 25 feet or more higher than most of it. Great viewing spot…but back in the timber a bit to conceal. Good access through the timber too!
