bareroots coming on....

keets

Yearling... With promise
I planted 22 bareroot fruit trees last weekend, ...some are coming in with flowers already, should I pluck the blossoms or not, and when? 8 of these were Dolgo's that were 1.5" diam and 8-' tall

Probably can leave a few on a tree that size, but you want the tree to expend most of its energy growing roots and over coming transplant shock the 1st year.

Got 10ft tall 3 year old trees i do that too. Planning to do that for anothwr 2 years.

No flowers also means ypu can sprsy for caterpillars n aphids sooner and not harm bees.

How is your success rate with 10’ tall trees? I’ve only done young ones under the impression you’ll get more roots for the size, which would result in a better success rate.

I think iy does help. These trees are at hone and get watered and monitored for bugs.

I do prune pretty hard. Im putting trees in heavier clay, so i want sone good roots down there.

This. ^ ^ ^ ^ ^

I yrnd to prefer smaller trees. Roots you get are in part limited by the hsrvesting method/ equipment used.

I want impressive roots more thsn impressive branch size.

An exception to the rule is getting them in person. They cant stuff mobster roots well without damage.

If i am not impressed with the roots. I trim some branches or height off the tree.

Got a korean gisnt pear eith barely any roots. Took a foot off the top. Was a 4ft whip to start with.
