Yes, some persimmon trees make many, many root sprouts. You can dig those up when they are small and move them to make a new tree.

The new tree will be the same as the roots of the old tree. If you have a native tree that you like, this is a way to clone it.

My advice is do it while the shoots are small and get a big chunk of dirt around the roots when you dig. Also give it some care the first couple of years. Persimmons that are planted are hard to get to live, but once they become established they are like Sherman Tanks.

Here's a pic of my best tree but none of them have flowered yet. I stood next to it. It's 12-15 ft tall and probably 2-2.5" in diameter at the base. The leaf pics are of a different persimmon. Anyone know what that might be? It's the only tree that shows that. The rest look really good.

Looks like anthracnose to me. Dead spots surrounded by darker margins are typically seen. Happens to a lot of different plants. Its caused by a fungus that infect emerging leaves in the spring, then shows symptoms later when the tree feels stress. Generally not serious, but I'd investigate potential sources of stress in case something else is affecting the tree.

I'm in PA too. Wet years like this I get that. Mine lost almost all flowers already and they didn't even open. I believe it's a fungus.

Ah that would make sense. This one is in an area that stays pretty wet.

I may try to graft this tree that appears to be male,Does it matter the age of the female tree as I have one that is half the age of this one and produces a few fruit but know of an ancient one that is already loaded

Use the scion wood from the heavy producing tree.

I agree. The young tree may have good characteristics, but we haven't had the chance to see them expressed yet. Go with the known producer.

Oh I planted them as seedlings roughly 7 years ago now. None have ever flowered that I've seen, so I'm not sure if they're male or female. I think I've had 4 survive from the original 10 I planted. I didn't know anything about keeping trees alive back then.

I would think it would be showing something by now if a female,I have several sprouts under one that is 20 ft tall and at least 6inch DBH,should be old enough to show something so they are coming out so the others can grow.But I guess I better find out if a root sprout comes off a male will it be a male.

If its truly a root sprout, it will be the same genetic material as the main tree. I get a lot of sprouts under my persimmons, but think they are all seeds left behind by critters eating the fruit. I've yet to recognize one as an actual root sprout, like one would see with pawpaw, locusts, apples, pears, etc. Not saying they don't happen, just saying I've not found one. Guess I'll get out the shovel...

I haven't found a bloom or fruit on the mature tree that these sprouts are under.I guess a better way of putting it is if the tree putting off the sprouts is a male are all the sprouts male?I wonder if so can a guy dig up a root and bring end above ground until it leafs out then cut off under ground? I have done this with cotton woods

Out of the 3 mature trees I did find one that is a female and had several fruit up high so these 3 trees get to live another year
