5 year old buck +
I received 100 bare root crabapples and 100 bare root strawberry bush yesterday

I was supposed to get them last Thursday and planned to plant them last weekend

unfortunately, weather delay altered plans and i will be unable to get to ranch for 2 weeks

What is the best way to preserve baby trees until then????

Heal in dirt at home?

You just have to keep the roots cool, dark, and moist. Covering them with dirt in a shallow trench will work as sandbur suggests, as long as it's in the shade, kept damp, and is cool. Above all, try not let the roots dry out too much. Good luck.

I wrap the roots of mine in a wet towel and keep the box in the garage if I can’t get them in the ground for a little while.

keeping roots moist and cool seems to summarize the replies

All good advice. I use to travel to Upstate NY to purchase Black Walnut, Burr Oak, and apple trees at St Lawrence Nursery. They store their trees in a barn healed in with damp sawdust or ground up bark or cedar mulch. Like all the good advice already given, just keep the root system moist and in a dark cool area. The more dormant they are the better they will do during early spring planting.
