Some of you may recall me talking about the new road coming through and clipping the edge of my yard and taking my inlaws house. We didn't want to lose some of our best young apple trees so we made an attempt to save them. The three chestnuts being taken were just too big, so we didn't try, but I have plenty of young ones planted to take their place.

I feel good about most that we moved, but one got set too deep, so I just don't know about it. Anyway, it pays to have a relative with some equipment. I owe him some favors now.

All of these except one was in my FIL's yard, and I gave him most of those trees. The third pic is of my best Black Limbertwig. It doesn't look that big, but that rascal has flat put out the apples the last two years.

Daniel, those were the ones that my FIL hadn't moved himself with his tractor. Do you remember the first tree you took scions off of in my yard the other day? That is the tree in the third picture. The guy with the backhoe is a relative who was moving some trees for another neighbor who got displaced. My FIL talked with him and he came over and used the backhoe to move most of the trees that hadn't been moved yet.

I've done this a lot and have had good succeess. Looks like you took your time and did it right! Nice job. The only thing I would recommend it pruning back the trees quite a bit since you are bound to have some root loss.

I have an update on this - all trees moved are alive and healthy. However, the leaves do look a little smaller than normal. Took this picture yesterday - one of the Black Limbertwigs even has one apple on it...LOL.

I'm sure the transplant put some stress on them. Probably need a good year or two to really set their feet again. Keep them well watered and I'm sure they will do just fine. Apples are hardy trees.
