5ft DEM topo maps

If no one has seen 5ft DEM contour maps before, you might want to see if they're available in your area. The detail is pretty amazing for finding specific topography features that might go unnoticed with regular topography maps. My state's GIS website is where I found mine.

I'd love to find them for my area With arcgis you can blanket the DEM with imagery. I've done it with more coarse DEMs but I'd love to see it with 5'.

Thanks,

Jack

I was able to download the DEM file for my area, but what are you using to view it?

I use the personal version of ESRI ArcGis. It is not for the casual user, but has a huge feature set for those who are technically inclined. I used it at work so I was familiar with it. The personal use version gives you full functionally for personal use only for $100.00 per year. I'm sure there are a lot of more consumer oriented mapping applications that can use it but I'm not familiar with them since I use ArcGis.

Thanks,

Jack

The state I'm using has a web map viewer, but it opens from the ArcGis site. ArcGIS has a web viewer I was able to access it from also.

Thanks Jack - that's a little pricey just to see if this works.

Your state has the LIDAR, which is similar and is even more detailed.
Toggle to Hillshade and Hillshade with imagery. there's also the pullout to the left that lets you toggle on LIDAR

Thanks Ben! That worked for me! Cool stuff.

I don't have the 5ft DEM but I do have the LIDAR....here is my place.

Link below for any of my fellow Hoosiers interested. I turned on the "land parcels" and "LiDAR" layers...the red lines I added with paint after a screen capture. It even captures a small bench area that the average topo would never show you....along the steep bank in the south.....

Cool! I like Indiana's too because you can toggle the aerials on and off and layer them with LIDAR:
