    The Throw n’ Mow Method

I think you'll be fine. I've done similarly in the past and have been happy with the results. I posted a timeline of one of my plots on this thread. I'd suggest you add a small grain with the clover/chicory mix this fall and then have at it. If the weeds are tall, I find it easier to roll...

2018 Hoosier state rules are out

We are pretty much on the same page. The push to lower the doe quotas is pretty much a feel-good idea that I suspect won't "improve" things. Improve is in quotes as that is definition that can cover a L O T of ground...

2018 Hoosier state rules are out

Relatively small parcels and largely private ownership make the DNRs job nearly impossible. Heck, for most people and places the doe quota could be unlimited and it wouldn't change the number of does they shoot. I personally don't know anyone that shoots more than 2/year. I know the quota...

    Weedy clover throw and mow

Exactly! If clover is there and the deer want some clover, they'll find it under those weeds. I'm pretty much over worrying about my plots being 'clean'. FWIW, the deer on the left in the above picture was shot by my 7yo with its feet in the clover and it's snout in an overhead weed taking...

    Weedy clover throw and mow

Thanks! It was your thread that gave me the confidence to give it a try. Time this fall is going to be very short as we'll be moving (closer to Camp!), but all my plots will probably get a dose of WR and Clover seed again this fall. If the weeds aren't too bad/big I may scalp a few strips...

    Weedy clover throw and mow

I planted a plot in fall of '16 with WR/clover via Throw/Roll/Spray. By Labor Day '17 it still had a lot of good stuff it in, but also had a lot of weeds. I did a Throw/Roll with more WR/Clover. The clover did extremely well and continues to do well. The WR establishment wasn't as good as...

To bulb or not to bulb, that is the question?

    Thanks for the discussion!

To bulb or not to bulb, that is the question?

Thanks for the tips. I think I'm going to give it a shot and see what happens.

To bulb or not to bulb, that is the question?

Thanks for the suggestions! I may go ahead and give it a try. Considering throwing some clover (maybe crimson and/or med red) in for some help with the N and hoping for the best.

To bulb or not to bulb, that is the question?

I have a plot I need to redo. It's been planted in clover/rye, but weeds have gotten the upper hand and I'm going to do something with it this fall. I've thought about switching things up and planting this one to all turnips/radishes. I have some other clover/WR plots not very far away. This...

    Awesome Joe Rogan interview!

I don't disagree, but his podcast with Jim Shockey was good as well as those with the Austrailian bowhunter Adam Greentree (I think that's his name) and Remi Warren. I don't listen to all of Joe's stuff, but he does have some pretty darn cool guests on at times.

    Terminating WR

Winter rye establishment into established clover was mentioned in another thread. It will establish, but not as thick in clover as in a new seeding. What I'm seeing on one of my plots this spring is backing that up. I have a plot that's been seeded with WR/clover for 3 straight years in the...

    Montana mule deer 2018

If you have somewhat specific questions, I've found email more reliable than a phone conversation. This is a BUSY time for those folks doing field work (out of the office) and the email allows them to reply when they can and not have to factor in the time difference. Like I said, very neat...

end all, be all, clover discussion... Keying on Longevity of the stand.

Thanks for the info! None of the clover I've planted in Durana and right now the only herbicide I use is gly maybe once a year. Though I do have some weed issues I need to get better at dealing with, so should probably broaden my horizons on that. I'm hoping once I get my tow behind bush hog...

end all, be all, clover discussion... Keying on Longevity of the stand.

I'm looking to add some diversity to some established clover plots. Are you guys having any luck with adding chicory to a Throw N Mow/Roll/Spray type situation?
