I saw this thread on another site but wanted to hear what you all see for the comming fall acorn/nut drops. Central MN is pretty bleak. Last year was a bumper crop, this year I can't find an acorn....

Try using a wire mesh cage about 3' diameter. This will allow the tree to grow as well as allow the deer to browse it when the tree reaches out of the cage.

White Cedar, nothing beats this for winter browse. Biggest problem is getting them established before they get munched

May of '14 was the first year I put any in the ground. Planting in the spring has been more successful then fall or late summer planting

I have two and three year old chestnuts growing northwest of Duluth, MN They do suffer some dye back, but I have some that are nearly pushing out of a 5' tube. I would say that I have about a 50% mortality rate. Spring planting is much more succesful than fall planting for me

So I sprayed today an acre of clover, 12 oz / AC + 30 oz crop oil 30 gals total. It rained about 90 mins after I sprayed. The label says 1 hr. rain fast. I know the grass was dry before it rained, but I don't understand how it can enter the plant so fast, and didn't the rain wash it off...

I have heard that if you spray them with cheap crop oil, it can deter the deer for a few weeks.

Ruskbucks, what is the % rate that you were charged. I am looking at logging off some property in Northern MN, and have recieved a few quotes, but I honestly don't know what is the fair price to pay for these services.

I am looking for a Timber Harvest Admin in Northern Minnesota, Itasca Co. What is a typical % that should be expected. I have already recieved a few quotes but all range from 13%-20%. I have read other places that less than 10 % is normal. Does anyone have any names, that I could contact...
