    Electric Fence

Thanks for the advice guys. My Father in law fenced off 1/2 acre in the middle of a 2.5 acre field last fall. The difference was night and day. Outside the fence it looked like a complete failure (they never allowed the turnips/radish to grow). Inside the fence he had baseball size bulbs...

    Electric Fence

I'm planning on doing the same thing with 2 half acre food plots (separate locations). My question is how big of a solar charger do I need to purchase to cover 0.5 acres of fence (600-700ft perimeter). Are the 2 inside wires hot as well, or is it just the outside tape that is electrified?

    Pear/Crabapple Tree---Small Woods opening

Thanks Prof Kent. I didn't even think about dwarf vs standard. I'll def try the full size variety when I do plant them. It sounds like its worth a shot for the $100 I'll have in planting a couple trees. The property hasn't been timbered for awhile either. If I can get lucky and they...

    Pear/Crabapple Tree---Small Woods opening

Not a bad idea haha. I'm sure there's a couple spots in the middle of the opening that receive more light than others. It sounds very promising though. I think next spring I'll order 5 or 6 trees and give it a try. Unfortunately it is a leased property, so I can't cut and big trees. If I...

    Pear/Crabapple Tree---Small Woods opening

Thanks Guys. Bluespruceoutfitters.....how tall are the surrounding trees? I'm surrounded by 40-60ft semi-mature maple and oaks. I've heard from several guys that if they could plant one pear it would be the Kieffer.

    Pear/Crabapple Tree---Small Woods opening

I have some pear/crabapples growing in small woods openings of about 0.5 acres, and they seem to be doing well. My question is what would be the minimum size clearing I could get away with? I have a couple true woods food plots, that are only 0.1-0.2 acres (small canopy opening). Right now I...

    Logging Roads

Wow that's really encouraging Someday isle, you have some really good clover growth in the middle of the woods! I have a similar property, as mine is only about 60 acres but its divided by a road. So the part we hunt is closer to 40-45 acres. I have 2 small 0.35-0.5 acre food plots that I...

    Logging Roads

I've never heard of that Northbound. I'll have to do some research on that.

    Logging Roads

Thanks 35 Acre. I do have access to cheap oat $3 for 25lbs, but I haven't had much luck. It grows great for a couple weeks, everything gets green, then it lays over and dies. I suspect there isn't enough light getting down to them. Have you ever tried Winter wheat in the woods? I have...

    Logging Roads

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I'm getting ready to place a seed order and I want to experiment on my logging roads. It's leased land so I can't cut any trees to open the canopy. I have tried red, white, and durana in the past. They seem to start good, but peter out by summer. I...

    Black Fungus on Apple Tree

Ok thats good to hear. So you're saying I don't need to spray or treat them in any way? It will basically work itself out?

Looks like bluehill is finally up

Just wanted to chime in as well. I picked up 10 pears trees from Ryan and Blue Hill on 4-2-2020. 4 Danville Kieffer, 4 Advent, and 2 Malus. They all look great and I'll be ordering more from him next year. Ryan was very helpful and is truly passionate about what he does.

    Black Fungus on Apple Tree

I was planting some other trees and noticed I have a black fungus on an Arkansas Black apple tree I planted 2 years ago. If it was a side branch I'd just cut it off, but this is the main trunk. Is there something I can spray it with to treat it? I scraped a small area with my fingernail, and...

    Fruit Tree Fencing

Thanks Yoder. I never thought of using remesh. Looks like the local Lowes has 150FT roll for $125. Unfortunately I'm in PA and we don't have Menards....$80 is a heck of a price.

    Fruit Tree Fencing

I have about 25 newly planted fruit trees I need to protect from the deer. I was looking at welded wire and woven wire fence from Tractor Supply. I've used 48" or 60" welded wire fence in the past, but the woven is much cheaper. Does anyone have experience with the woven wire? Just curious if...
