Not worth it at any price. I'm stuck on the Tactacams.

Do the tactacams work by just adding them to a Verizon plan? If not and they force you to go through them for data, is it a one set cost type plan where you can get video, unlimited HD pictures, and do updates (configuration and firmware) over the air without having to pay more? I'm interested in other cell cam companies but they all seem to nickel and dime you to the point where the extra $150 for a Spartan is paid off in under a year not even factoring in there are things it'll do that my Spypoints can't, even if I paid more.

I'm a cell cam junkie but they have a ways to go yet in regards to recovery time and not missing pictures before they can completely replace standard cams. The other thing is possible future laws against cell cam use for hunting.

Plans have to go through tactacam and as far as I can see, $7.50 / month to add a camera and 500 photos to an existing plan, $12 /month to add a cam with unlimited photos.

Besides the data, tactacam needs to prove they'll be reliable for more than a year still IMO.

So $12 a month for unlimited photos without video option and no HD photos (or pay per HD)? I still can't understand why folks with a Verizon cell plan would choose anything other than Spartan unless I'm missing something. $8/month gives me video (including on demand for my GoLive), full HD, updates on demand, firmware upgrades over the air and I've never had one fail in 3 years that couldn't be fixed with s button click on the App to format the SD card. I know I sound like a salesman but it just blows my mind how far behind all these other companies are. I wish they'd catch up so I'm not locked in to only Spartan.

My Spartans don't seem to miss much (attached file is just a bit ago of a deer about 40-50 yards tripping it) but that point about banning cell cams (or trail cameras period) is one I worry about while dropping that much on a camera.

Doubt that. Especially since P & Y came out against them, and their real time use.

Besides Bill.. I'm not letting go of my Reconyx Hyperfire 2s!! Over my cold dead hands! LOL..

I think detection circuits can be and are good, they just seem to struggle recovering and taking another picture quickly. So it might catch that doe moving through at a good clip but miss the buck thats 10 seconds behind her.

My elementary understanding although I'm sure it's not universal -> The camera has to convert that full size image to a thumbnail and it seems that most do that immediately after taking the picture even if the uploads are set to certain times. That conversion delays the ability to recover and trigger again quickly.

That's is correct. The issue with most cell cameras is the processor can't take and send a picture at the same time. They claim the new GoLive they have (I just bought 2) isn't limited like this.

Go the Ghost or GoLive models have any filter clunk noise? I get a very faint noise on my GoCam 4G LTE models.
The deer don't seem to notice it but I would like a dead silent camera.

Agreed if you are a verizon customer, it's hard to find a more economical option for a cell cam.

I've never seen a camera that uses a filter that doesn't make a clunk. I've seen a few Chinese Amazon offerings that have two seperate lenses, one for daylight (filtered) one for dark/twilight (unfiltered). I've pitched the idea to Spartan before. Hopefully someone will offer a cell cam like this soon.

Browning and bushnell have or do offer dual lens options as well.

I hope they bring that technology to their cell cameras. There are a few spots I need a completely silent camera.
