Made it to the farm today

Congrats Bill! Are you planning on renting out the existing ag ground?

Looks like you will have plenty of options for hunting the larger piece if you get any kind of wind out of the West or even North. I'm looking forward to seeing some of the deer you and the family will be able to get into.

Congratulations Bill! You haven’t posted any harvest pictures or stories this year have you? Or did I miss it? Hoping you had a good season.

Thanks!
Yeah we did ok this year my son and both got deer. There in successful hunts. Guess I should have posted here for my own record also.

yeah I’ve worked out a deal on trading crop ground for hunting rights on another property. Works out to be a sweet deal.

some of that timber is getting opened up with a bull dozer. That big block of timber needs more edge and more places for different winds...

Yeah those low spots seem to be favorite places for them to feed out of sight.

much better than the top of the hill.

The low spots are great for that, unless your land is in Minnesota. Then the tops of the beans would be a couple feet below the snow.

Congrats Bill!

Well I bought the farm. But thankfully I’m still alive.

yellow is existing, the red has been mine for a day..
My Lines are squiggly but it makes the point.

lots of road frontage. Thus the 5000 rhizomes reserved for spring. I’m starting with road screens as job # 1

Looks like you have nearly doubled your property size! Looks like you added some timber to the place as well.... I have my eye on a neighboring 40...but the folks refuse to sell....so I have to wait.... Great looking addition!!

A big congratulations to you Bill. Awesome purchase.

yeah lots of existing trees. The pic of my original farm doesn’t do it justice. In the last 14 years I’ve planted 1000’s of trees and cuttings. That’s over now except for fruit and nuts.
Keep trying on that 40. I had this place bought years ago but they backed out. Kept reminding them and it finally happened.

that 20 acres to the south east was only purchased so I could keep up with @H20fwler and have the big farm and the small farm.
Well, that and I know the guy that owns everything around it and it’s a killer spot but for road hunters. Who will meet miscanthus grass very soon....

Glad to see you got it...you can never have too much ground. Especially if it has some income potential. They ain't making any more land and we continue to put greater and greater demands on it....

Looks like a great piece! Glad you were able to buy it. I think I even see your plot you called "7th grade humor" a while back, and possibly I see 1 that might be 8th grade humor. It's pretty neat watching my MG growing in places where I didn't initially think they made it. I should make another order, but I didn't prep any ground this fall. Where's the best link to see how your road screens look again?

yeah those odd plots are in there. :)

I looked through this whole thread and never found a picture of my road screen.

there should be a picture in the land tour so here’s the best one I can find that’s handy.

yes on the creek to the east I had a 4 foot pipe put in and they dozed in dirt for a bridge. Low crossing on another. They dry out in the summer but look out if it’s a wet spring...

I need a few more crossings.

also that farthest 80 to the east has a right of way going to it from the north. We use that when we’re hunting so we’re not crossing the entire farm.

What type screen is that MG?

And this is a good read

That is what I thought it was. I planted a bunch of them this year. They got 6-8' tall but are not really thick enough to make a good screen. How long were these along the road planted ago? Looks like a very effective screen. Is that 2 rows of three?

Bill ... Looks like a great addition to your current property!

I would love to see a winter picture of that MG road screen.

those were planted in 2014. Miscanthus takes three years to really get going and that is with some weed control. After that it just keeps growing outward. That was originally two rows about three foot apart. They have become one thick row now.

planted on about 18-24 inch centers with each row staggered.
