The NDA website (I know, I know) just had an article detailing the reasons that bucks throughout the country and even within a state can vary in size and weight. Nothing earth shattering but pretty on topic to the ongoing discussion.

The bulk of our 4 and 5 year old buck probably would score 115 - but there is typically an outlier or two. We typically hunt the four year old - and older deer - regardless of what they will score

Oh - OK - That is pretty typical for our area of Upper Michigan as well….except that our outliers are going to be in the mid 120’s. We typically hunt 3 year olds or older but there aren’t too many that make it much older. We have only taken one 5 year old buck in 27 years.

Not Grant Woods, but since my sugar beet question was here, a quick update. Yesterday was spray day. The beet plants were bigger than I expected. Where the clover was dense, they're still in there, but smaller. I'd call it maybe a half stand on down to a quarter/third stand. If the spray works well, it should work out just right to come back in a couple weeks and fill it in with turnips and radishes. I see some bug bites in them but couldn't find any bugs. Overall looked pretty healthy. Again, these were throw and mow immature cereal rye. Clover had been frost seeded in late winter.

No, sorry, that was poorly worded. I'm no Poe. I threw them on, holding the bag spreader over my head. Then mowed the cereal rye over the top.
