Looking at the 10 day this morning, and while there are still a couple night below 0, it looks as though temps will be climbing. Dare I say it has been not to bad of a winter? Ya, it may be a little early yet to make that prediction, but so far I think all my apple trees should survive this winter, and shouldn’t be too bad for the deer. I think the coldest we had here was -30, with several nights with -20’s. The regular deer visitors all look good and healthy yet.
Snow cover hasn’t been to bad, since Christmas we have had about a foot, give or take 6”. The deer have been able to dig down to get to my food plots for food. Assuming we don’t get dumped on by the end of February, my plan is to start dropping a bunch of trees for the deer to have some browse, and once the snow melts more, I will clean them up for firewood for next winter.
I guess the first 20+ degree day in a long time happened yesterday and it got me thinking about spring. I am sure Mother Nature isn’t ready to let go of winter yet, and temps, and snow depths can easily turn for the negative, but I have hopes, and I am making plans for spring.
