New antlers in velvet

The MSU deer lab Facebook page has a cool slide that shows one of their pen deer progressing through the summer last year. Was cool and encouraging to see how much growth he put on late in the summer.

That is a very cool link, and thanks for sharing it. Even though we know that it will vary quite a bit from deer to deer, that is a good representation.

Had a buck show up this morning that we haven’t seen for a year and a half. He was very nice back then, and looks like he’s adding some stickers/drop tine this year

I usually leave my cameras up all year but I pulled them after the first of the year and I didn't get them out until last week, nice suprise.

That s beautiful buck DJN! Great pictures too! So what do you think, hes like 6 or 7 yrs old? Looks like he has a dead right eye maybe as well?
Just a classic old buck with the scars of a long, rough life showing. Awesome

I’d agree with your guess Swiffy - 6-7 at least. He was already big in ‘17 (post #47 on this thread) so you’d think he was minimum 3 at that point.
We were guessing a bad eye as well. Cloudy in all pics we get of him (was like that even in 2018-19) and when we get the chance to watch him, he turns way around to look at anything to that side. Definitely an old guy that seems to stick to himself through the summer.

Well I'm pretty pumped. One of the better deer in the area for sure made it through the winter. It is the buck in my thumbnail photo and this video:
.

Looks like his brow tines are a little taller this year. All last fall, he was probably the most photographed buck on nearly every camera (50+ photos and videos), but I still only saw him that one time in person. Hoping for another opportunity at him!

A couple from a cam I didn't have to go thru a jungle to get to. Lots of rain. Lots of vegetation. Lots of flying bloodsucking _____.

the last picture is the 5 year old I was after last year. If I get half a shake at him this year, i'll punch my tag opening day on a mediocre, 6 year old 8 point, with pleasure.
