Frost seed over moss?

tbarile

5 year old buck +
I cleared out a 200 yd by 5 yd path from a bedding area to a destination plot and and planned on frost seeding clover to give them something to graze on during their walk. When I checked it this fall I noticed a short layer of green moss growing. Will clover grow over this or do I need to disc the soil up?

First you should figure out why the moss is there.
Moss grows in
Low PH, Heavy shade or wet areas. None are ideal for clover. I don't think it out competes anything by itself. It just grows better in the environment you find it in than anything else will. If that makes sense.

^^^ Agree ... it's there as opposed to anything else that could grow.

Disc it to relive compaction and allow sunlight in. Get a soil test to verify Bill's comments. Watch if anything else grows.
