Cone harvest

Me and the kids took a walk in the woods today to collect some cones. I've never harvested cones before but I'm hoping to get some seeds from these. My identification skills are a little weak, but should be BH spruce.

Tomorrow going for some acorns.

I can't really say for sure, but it would be easier for the experts to help you if you posted your location.

Pet peeve about a lot of forums... Location should be mandatory in the avatar. Not an exact address, but at least state or planting zone.

I live in the Black Hills. Harvested them from an area where a white house Christmas tree was taken from back in the 70's, by Nemo SD.

That looks like some type of Spruce but can't say for sure on the variety. Maybe Norway?
