Best Reminder I can give the new folks is ...

If you practice Superior Deer Management (my new phrase for QDM) to help the herd and your hunting experience, the best reminder I can give you is to look at it from a macro point of view. Do not just assume step one is a food plot. Yes, they are very exciting and get people fired up. Step one is too consider your property as a single spot on a chess or checker board. What is around you, and what is lacking? If there is quality food in great quantities for 10 square miles, but little cover you may want to invest in cover improvement techniques. If no place has quality water around you, two or three days rental on a mini or mid sized excavator (larger ones are much easier to use and often safer) could prove to be priceless if you are going to build some water holes. My best water hole is spring fed and only three yards wide and 6 long.

So don't lose sight of the BIG picture. It will help the deer and help you come fall.
