    Sick Deer?

This is the first deer I've ever seen on my property in PA that looks sick like this - what's the possibility of it being CWD/EHD? Anyone ever have just a lone sick deer and have it not affect the herd? The area I'm in is pretty far from any confirmed CWD cases but seeing this worries me

Prescribed Fire Threat to Mature Trees

What's been everyone's experience doing prescribed fire in areas with mature maple, black cherry, aspen, beech, hemlock, and yellow/black birch? That's what my property mainly consists of and I'm worried if I attempt a controlled burn it will kill my mature trees since they're not "fire-adapted"...

    Pochuck Land Tour

Pochuck is what they always called my family's farm back in the day - it means "Out of the way place" in Lenape I'm pretty sure, which is pretty fitting for me because it's 2 hours outside nyc where I currently work These are the two biggest bucks on the property this year, both 5.5 years old -...

Spraying Shaded vs Full Sun Invasives

Last year I sprayed all the japanese barberry on my farm. All of the barberry I sprayed showed signs of dying/death but this spring, suprisingly, it seems that the barberry that was in full sun all died, while all of the barberry that was shaded in the woods lived. Any reasoning behind this? I...

    Books

Does anyone have any hunting/conservation books they recommend? I'm finishing up Aldo Leopold's A Sand County Almanac and it has been one of my favorite books I've read, even if I only get to read it on the subway in manhattan :/ It has made me look at a lot of outdoor aspects in a different...

    What's eating these apple/pear leaves?

1 Pear and 1 Apple tree are eaten like this - all but the stem of the leaves. I have japanese beetles which make the leaves look like "lace" but not like this. Only these 2 trees out of 90 are like this (Too high for deer to get)
