Derek, if that field is on your property and you know its history, you're good to go.
However, if you don't know its history, I suggest that you find out if it has been treated with an aminopyralid herbicide at any time in the last two or three years. If so, don't waste your money on brassicas...
Last Fall I bought some blueberry plants from a local nursery. They were in one gallon buckets. This stuff seems to have come along for a ride in the soil in those buckets. It's spreading throughout my garden. Not a big problem as it's easily pulled. But I sure would like to know what it is.
I posted this a year or two ago. I'm reposting for the new guys here who may find it useful.
I and several other members of my hunting club use this one in our no till plotting.
We call it "The Drag Queen".
I don't have the pull behind model, but I and my brother in law both have the NorthStar 16 gallon spot sprayers that we mount on the back of our ATVs. We have them set up with spray heads on the back of the bikes so they can be used with either the wand or with the spray head (which sprays a 15'...
Here’s my EZ Fill corn feeder with a built in ladder. The build required five 8’ treated 2x4”, two 10’ lengths of ½” EMT, two 24” lengths of angle iron (to anchor ladder legs) and a handful of ¼” galvanized nuts & bolts, and 16D galvanized nails.
I have a small 1/4 acre plot that's currently a mix of clover/wheat/chicory. Come early March I'm going to hit it with a light mix of Gly to suppress the clover and kill most everything else. A week later I'll broadcast Mung Beans and roll them in with my home made roller/crimper. I'm pretty...
Pictures of my 1/2 acre plot in S.E. Louisiana, taken January 12, 2020. The plot was planted in early October with a mix of wheat, oats, turnips, radish, chicory and white clover using the Throw & Mow method.
I too have planted pumpkins on small 1/4 acre plots. They produced well and have never been touched by deer. For the last few years I've been planting Butternut Squash with good results. No sign of deer eating them though rabbits and mice appear to scrape little divots in some of them. Next...
I'm in S.E. Louisiana. The picture below (taken last Saturday) is of one of my small plots that was planted last October with a mix of wheat/oats/clover/chicory/radish. The radish went crazy and is now in flower.
I decided to mow it to see if the clover has survived being shaded out by the...
I've been a 100% T&M guy for the last three years. But several guys in our hunting club rototill their plots, throw the seed, then drag the plot with a four foot length of 6' chain link fencing pulled behind an ATV to cover the seed. It works well for them.
Only a 1/4 acre plot, but when I planted IC peas on it the deer let them get to about six or eight inches tall then totally wiped them out between my week-apart visits to the plot.
One of the guys in our hunting club planted two small plots in mid-September with a mix of purple top turnips and wheat - fairly heavy on the turnips. He got great germination of the turnips and very poor germination of the wheat. Other plots in the same area planted with the same wheat seed but...
