    Little Chestnut Help Please!

I would have to doubt that - they've been growing their entire existence inside the greenhouse and this is a recent issue?????

    Little Chestnut Help Please!

I have a friend over on the MO deer board that sent me these pics of some chestnuts he's growing in his greenhouse and asked me for some help. Unfortunately I've never seen this problem in the years I've grown them. Any ideas on what is causing his issue?

    Franklin Cider Tree Availability

I planted mime last year as 3" whips - they are now over 8" tall and both actually have 3 apples on them after 1 year of growth. Fastest growth rate of any apple variety I've ever planted and as said above, phenomenal 90 degree crotch angles - couldn't be happier with them!

Missouri guys - who is hunting this weekend?

    3rd party hosting notice, photobucket.........

I understand their need to generate revenue but I think this is going to seriously hurt or possibly kill photobucket. I can't believe that few if any people will agree to be extorted the $400 a year cost they are proposing, and with most folks no longer using the site I cannot imagine the...

Mineral Stumps for Deer - Not what You're Thinking I Promise!

For years I've been a huge fan of TSI in my woodland acres and have been practicing TSI on my place for over twenty years. I truly saw the benefits of my TSI work immediately (ie. the first year) in most cases. However, by year ten, the benefits begin to wain as the resulting new growth at that...

    whippoorwills

Lots of them here as well - especially in early Spring. Sitting in the woods waiting for the turkeys to come alive, it's nice to be able to listen to the whippoorwills until they do!

    ladino clover

No way I would mow it - at least not right now! Three weeks from now when all those ladino blossoms dry out you'll have tons of free seed for the next generation. Let the bees, deer, and other wildlife enjoy the buffet and mow it later in the year if you feel the need.

Where Are the Biggest Booners Coming From Right Now?

It is a common knowledge that many B&C bucks that are killed are never recorded in the actual record books as many folks don't want the limelight, are afraid of internet scouters, worry about trespassers sneaking onto their land, etc. but I can see no reason why the unreported percentage would...

Where Are the Biggest Booners Coming From Right Now?

Two things really come as a small surprise. First, few expected Maryland to rank in the top 10. Delaware coming in just behind it only supports the fact that a pocket in the Northeast is prime big buck country. Secondly, select Midwestern states aren’t producing like they used to. Both of these...

    DR Field and brush mower

I rent a DR mower every Fall to get to the tight areas that I can't reach with my 6 foot brushhog and the steep slopes on my lake dam and I can tell you those things are truly a beast. I've found that if it has enough weight to push it over it will cut it down. Truly amazing machines!

Got My Mount Back From The Taxidermist

Well I got my mount back from the taxidermist and I couldn't be happier with results! As I said in an earlier post, I have a lot of history with this buck so it was extremely gratifying watching him grow up into the monarch that he became. A special shout out THANK YOU to Bob Schnettgoeke of...
