What are you planting for habitat - Spring 2018?

Addiction is not to be taken lightly.
Just placed another order with SNL
Gotta stop

Went with another Dolgo an Chestnut. Then decided to try a Freedom an Trailman Crab to change it up a bit from the East Orchard.

Decided to plant on 25ft spacing as opposed to 20, so this kicked three trees out of my Central orchard to SE orchard which wasn't supposed to go in till next year.
Well I couldn't leave good enough alone an figured if I'm gunna put in three I might as well put in all seven now.

Did you take that picture at my place? I have some nice cedars that look just like that with apples growing 50 yards away. I think it might stunt a couple young trees a bit, but it really doesn't seem to have a huge impact so far. There are some old wild apples and crabapples on my property that aren't impacted at all and so far it doesn't seem to bother most of the trees I've planted either.

I believe I've planted all the trees you've mentioned. For the most part mine aren't old enough to produce much yet, but they sure are growing well from SLN. With those big standard sized trees I typically plant at 25 or 30 feet spacing.

It will be an off year as for plantings, I have a couple Dolgos ordered, and as for food plots, last fall I planted winter rye into all of my food plots to have something growing all spring for the deer. I also have about an acre of clover already growing. My plan is to plant sunflowers late summer, for a early season candy plot for early bow hunting, then again plant winter rye into the sunflowers on labor day.

My summer will be busy with building this spring and summer. If spring ever arrives!

Why I did this again, not sure (:emoji_head_bandage:)

"2000MG" how you doing that? All I have is a shovel, and limited time....

Our local home improvement store has a 50% off tree and shrub sale each spring. We ran in today so I could get a tree to plant in grandpa’s memory. Chose a redbud for grandpa, but while looking they had 8 ft tall Shumard oaks for $24 bucks. Bought one to plant down where I lost a pin oak last year.

Heres what i did.....

I used my 6 foot tiller. Set kubota tractor low 1st gear(turtle icon) and cranked up RPMs on PTO to till ~200 yd strip

Placed rhyzome on surface and pressed them down into soft ground ~4 in. ( easy, peazy) 3 foot spacing in 2 staggered rows

I then ran cultipacker over them

Time will tell!!

Is That just a twin sub soiler you're using? Or something you made? I do the same thing with pallet forks on skidder but very hard to keep nice and strait, yours is much better
