Japanese knotweed spraying

I have a stand of Japanese knotweed/bamboo whatever you want to call it. It is dormant right now but would like to check it off my list.

Can I basal spray this? Or does it die back, and resprout from the roots ?
Never really paid attention to it's life cycle.

Thanks

Not sure on Basel spray. I have some at home to deal with. Based on what I've read, cut it back late spring, when it resprouts hit it with straight or a very high concentration of Gly. Then be ready to spray it a few more times over the summer.

Had a large stand of this summer of 2016 that I took care of with high Gly concentrate mixed with a ‘tri’ chemical name that is escaping me at the moment. Anyways, it just took that 1 spray to kill it all off. It never came back this year but neighboring property has it so I’m sure it’ll be back sooner or later. Nasty stuff if it takes off on you. Rhizome grower/sprouter for sure.

“Arsenal” was the other herbicide I mixed with Gly. Maybe Gly alone could have killed it.

Very affective on stuff that grows in this nature like bamboo/phragmites/reed canary grass. Arsenal's active ingredient is imazapyr which is a soil sterilizer. Really would do the trick, and you've got the right tool for the job, however I've killed some very large non-target trees that had their roots sprawling into my target area without me being aware. If it was in the wide open with brushy/grasses around it, definitely the right tool for the job. Thanks
Trying to limit my collateral damage...and hopefully spray now while ive got the time. Might have to wait for green up though:) i can't find any information online on if basal spraying is effective, and I don't want to cut that many stems to stump treat.
Thanks guys

I took care of my river cane/bamboo issues by foliar spraying glyphosate during the growing season. Because it grows in colonies, just be sure to give it time to work throughout...knocked it right out.
