Cuddelink general Q&A recommendations

But your rechargeables are not in the k themselves they are in the DPB correct or can they be in the k
you can run 6 d rechargeable in your k and plug a solar panel into the back

Not that it matters but it will not show the solar panel as an Ex source because both are same voltage ( 6 d x 1.2 = 7.2) , solar panel 7.2, correct ?

when using the 3501 panel with the K and internal rechargeable d's it wont show as external because all the panel is doing is charging the internal batteries. This method works well since 10,000MAH rechargeable d's can last several weeks in most cases without a charge , when there is sun it will charge them back up. Im referring to using the #3501 panel . If your goal is use solar for a long period of time , ive run that set up for almost a year without touching it.
The new 3600 with internal batteries in the panel has not been out long enough for me to give you a definite answer on how long it will last, it still wont show you external reliably because the voltage in the k is 9 volts and the 3600 is less or equal to that. The new 3600 panel is equipped to work with any camera, G,J or K or the Dual power bank and includes all cables needed for any application. The recently discontinued 3501 panel only includes a cable that can be plugged into a J or K.
Unfortunately, there isnt a reliable way to have a K camera show external power on the report right now. the DPB was intended to do that but its not doing that consistently. Using a K with any external source will get you more battery life so its still a good idea to do so. It just runs them all concurrent.

I just purchased four 3358 Battery boosters for my J cameras. The website said they were compatible. I understand a cord is included to connect them, but do they have to be mounted side by side? The battery packs don't seem to fit on the back of the Js. Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I can't find it here...

yes they do need to be mounted separately , the 3358 is a booster that was adapted to work with all cameras but they dont nest on the J camera because of the input port. There are two style cables inside it so it can be plugged into any series of Cuddelink cameras. It will nest on then G series. There should be a genius mount in the box with to utilize or the new post mount is designed for the camera to slide in the front and the booster on the back to help distribute the weight. I use the post mounts for all cameras. Some dont want to incur the added expense but once you use the post mount you dont like using anything else. i find it helps me get my cameras exactly where i want them and also level each time.

Thanks John , This info is very helpful, may have to reconsider my position on the k

@john volkman . I'd like to purchase a 4-pack of J's from an online retailer that I have a gift card for. The retailer says that they have a pack of 4 J-1415's, but that they are the ones that take the 12 AA batteries. The Cuddeback website also lists the 1415's as taking AA batteries. I ordered the two J's plus a K starter kit in November that were also 1415's, but they were the D-battery versions (which from everything I have read means they are better). Is there a UPC or manufacturing number that I could verify with the retailer to ensure that this 4-pack has the D battery versions of the 1415? Thanks!

The J Dpack IR in a 4 pack is #11483 but...... the 4 pack of J's D battery version is not available and may not be until l fall or later, they are still working thru 4 packs with the aa ,its a rolling change. Sometime soon we will have the 4 d battery pack replacement as an accessory so you could buy them and swap them out if you needed them asap. The kits that contain the Dual cell are currently shipping with the J's that take d's. If you want more J's with d's to deploy this summer or early fall, you are going to need to buy the aa version and replace the aa pack with the 4 d pack. The benefit is you may be able to find a deal on the aa version that saves you enough that you are money ahead even after replacing the 4d pack on them.

Are the 3495 6D packs still available?

That's really good to know. Would I be able to use an external power source (9V battery) with a Cuddeback power cord with the J's that take the AA batteries?

cuddeback sells a cable that can be hooked up to a 12volt battery that meters it to 9v, you should be able to use that cable with a J and 12 volt battery.

Can they be used on the J1521? If so where do I get the special tool to remove the battery pack.
they should work on any J and i dont think you need a special tool , its not a phliipps head but you should be able find the bit

It’s a T-10 but not a normal T-10.

i dug into this deeper , as you stated... it is a security key, They are discouraging people from removing the 4 d pack , eventually they will discontinue the AA version and the #3495 6 d replacement pack. For those that want extra battery life, they want you to use either the 6 d booster(3358) or the new 3600 solar kit with the 4 d cell J camera. They are keeping the #3495 active as long as there are AA J's on the market, but at some point it will be discontinued.
The reason being is, it is much more efficient to run The 4 D J with either the new solar or the 3358 booster. It will allow you to see longer life overall and still have the internals as back up. It will also show as external on the report.
If you really want to change the 4 D pack off your cameras i can arrange for you to do so with cuddeback somehow. They are trying to streamline things so they are not so confusing and keeping the aa or 3495 long term will do just that. As i said earlier, we do plan on having 4 D battery packs available soon for those that want to change out an aa version. They just dont want people doing it the other way.

Just received my 2nd solar (3600) panel and realized you can add a second battery pack ,looking for pros & cons?

1) Does anyone know what will be in the update for V8.0 that is expected in June? Trying to determine if I should wait until then to update and deploy.

2) Can I use a 3501 solar panel to charge Bank 1 of a DPB? I have both types but it seems a waste to use a 3600 since the internal batteries are bypassed. Am I correct in thinking that they are not used in that situation?

3) What settings should I use to get my pics as fast as possible? Hoping for something faster than every one hour in V8.0. Not worried about power consumption.
