Wind broke top works off

sandbur

5 year old buck +
I cut some seedling crab apples off in spring of 2015 and top worked them. I had 6 plus feet of growth this year and the wind broke 2 or 3 of them off. The rootstock is 2-3 inches in diameter.

Is this too big to try t buds or will topworking inthe spring be just as good?

We have had lots of recent rains and the bark might slip.

My other attempts at t budding were failures.

I would wait to top work them in the spring. I have heard that t-budding older stock is not as successful. But in all honesty it would not hurt to try to t-bud this fall yet and if they dont take you can still top work come spring.
Really stinks when you lose a graft that nice!

I lost whitney and kerr, as well as a very late small crab.

I have more whitney and kerr to try.
