Which Pear?

It seems that different areas and regions have certain varieties of pear that seem to be the most popular among the locals. For whatever reason they grow best are disease resistant need almost no upkeep and really thrive in certain places better than other parts of the nation.
For my particular corner of the country it is the Bartlett pear, every farm and old homestead seems to have two or three and everyone that has mature pears talks them up here.

What is most popular in your area?

Keiffer probably, lot of old sand pears found at old homesteads.

Kieffer would be the most popular. Occasionally someone would have what they called "Sugar Pear" (which I believe was the same pear as the Ayers I now have). There was one on my farm, but it died before I got into grafting.

I have a Flemish Beauty that has been growing like a weed on my farm. Haven't seen any fruit yet but it is probably 3 or 4 years old and is pushing 12' tall with some huge branches. I expect it to fruit soon. It is upward growing but i'm letting it's do it's thing. I also have Summercrisp, Coldsnap, Kieffer, Parker, and Olympic Giant, 3 of which were planted this spring.

Moonglow seems to grow well for me.

I'm not that familiar with pears. There was a pear tree on us and one on the neighbors that I assume were seedlings and were similar to Bartlett. Our tree is long gone. The neighbor's tree is alive but not healthy. I got to liking eating them right off the tree while still hard. I know my mother canned pears a few times but I think those came from a local orchard.

There is a patch of seedlings along the road where I live now in NY. I have not looked at the fruit closely. Normally loaded and gone sometime in September. Those trees often have fireblight too. Few pears and no blight this year.

I intend to graft pears over the next couple years. Mostly full size OHxF97 rootstock to try some later ripening ones and not worried about eating quality for these. I also have a couple of semidwarf OHxF333 in my orchard that I'd like to put some other eating pears on. Right now I have a few of the newer DR resistant pears, Potomac, Shenandoah, and Harvest Queen and some european perry pears I expect will be later ripening. Those were purchased from Cummins in 2015 and look to be some years away from fruiting yet.

As a side note, I read a DNA study recently that found the OHxF rootstocks have no F in them. Supposed to be Old Home pollinated by Farmingdale. The DNA tested showed they were Old Home Seedlings but Farmingdale was not the pollinator and Bartlett was more likely. https://www.ars.usda.gov/research/publications/publication/?seqNo115=292127

Here is another one I like - Senator Clark.
