Which alternative would you choose $$

Cash no question. Then I’d immediately put it into a chunk much bigger than 100 acres.

As far as the acres , just an example . I was using $5000/ac in comparison with say Missouri.

You can buy more in North Dakota for example, less in parts of Wisconsin. My area of Minnesota is around 5000/ac if it’s the right mix.

I’m sure Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.. might be much cheaper.

Folks are getting too technical! It’s a hypothetical.

“I’d take the cash, build a Time Machine, invest in nvidia and bitcoin in 2018, get rich, buy 20,000 acres at 2000 acres cause I ain’t paying no 5000/acre…that’s what I’d do”.

Cash....to buy a little off-grid deer camp up in Jackman, Maine.

I want 3 M

Mules,
Marlins,
Moonshine

I'd take the cash, buy the two parcels (50 acres total) around mine for ~250,000 and build a house on my land with the rest! If there's any left over, I am then fencing my fields and buying 15 head of beef to start my regenerative farm.

A new UTV?

I would take the land. By the time you got done signing papers it would be worth more.

A chunk of ground a few miles away just went for $10k an acre, I believe as recreational property, no water......pure insanity. Is this what devaluation of the dollar looks like?
I can’t believe the number of people asking 10k an acre in Ohio. Stupidity. I think there is going to be a drop, I don’t know when but average people can’t afford that kind of pricing.

Well we paid 17.2 for land this summer, so I guess that's my answer. But it's 99.8% tillable and I doubt I'll ever see so much as a squirrel there. Maybe it's not so smart, with $70+ property taxes already, and the democrats proposing major tax confiscation plans.

I would take the cash at this point. If I were younger I'd take the land.

I'd take the cash and put it in an S&P index fund

1st choice, cash
2nd ,land
3rd, gold
The rest,nope

I'm poor so it's cash, cash, and then cash. I'd love 100 acres but couldn't afford the taxes, or the gear I'd need for that much land.

Never owned stocks other than a 401k.

I don't understand Bitcoin, isn't it just imaginary? What can you buy with it?

I'm with you on that, no idea how the imaginary money works, don't really want to know

I guess I would take the cash. I don't really have time or the energy to have more land and I dont know what I would do with bit coin. Gold would be OK.....but I would convert that to cash at some point too. At some point I'd buy stocks with the cash.

Land all the way. My goal in life has always been to buy as much land as I could possibly afford and live in the cheapest house possible on it.

Cash - then invest it, diversifying it to grow the original $500k. Some S&P index shares, some high dividend payers, and a bit on a "high-flyer" fund or two.
Land would be good too. I'd set it up with & for our sons' future use & side incomes.
