My friends and I found one of these in a pasture when we were young and just had that youthful fascination with blowing things up. One lit firework later and we were covered with stings....all of the ideas with spraying at night are a better option than M-80s and slow running.

Haha. My cousin and I saw a bunch of bees flying around a pile of rocks so we thought it'd be a great idea to throw rocks at it. I think I only got nailed 5-6 times by the time we made it back to the house.

I went back out there this evening, I saw a few flying around the nest, so I re sprayed it, and used a hoe, and knocked it down, then took off on my atv and got out of there. I will check it out again tomorrow again. No stings yet.

I shot one multiple times with 30-06 from a far. Pissed them off but didn’t really make them leave.
Cut it down in January and burned it. That worked.

Found one about 15 ft in a tree down here in east Texas. It was already winter so it was easy to see. I wanted it, so after some research found that they died after a freeze. Cut in down, then later when it warmed up it started to stink like decaying flesh. Waited the smell out. Kept it a couple years on the front deck until weather finally claimed it. Pretty neat though. Wouldn’t mess with them other than winter if necessary.

They are less active and dormant at night. Get out there after dark with 2 cans of wasp/hornet spray foam that shoots 20 ft. Spray right into the hole and keep on spraying. The spray wii expand into a foam and you should get a good almost complete kill.

They are nasty, have had several experiences where I was attached by simply working in the area. If you are allergic to bee stings, better have a epi pen around.

Get hit by one and all thoughts of bravado will quickly go out the window. I’d wait until midnight snowstorm in January to mess with that thing.

I was weed eating near an old stand a couple of weeks ago. Grabbed the old wooden ladder to move it and heard a weird sound like crunching paper, then the buzzing started. Figured it out and turned and ran, dropping the weed eater in the process. One got me on the back when I was about 20 yards away.

I had a little bit of wasp spray left, just enough to spray the 3 or 4 on my weed eater and reclaim it. Went back yesterday at first light with a new can. Soaked the nest, knocked it down, soaked again, stomped on it a couple times and soaked again. A couple tried to escape but think I got them all.

The spot of the sting turned red, with about a 3 inch circle around it. Itched like crazy a couple days later. But had no arthritis pain at all for about the next week!

Definitely hornets. I had a big paper nest in my room growing up, I still think they’re cool.

Speaking of getting stung….

I walked our property with a logger 2 weeks ago. We were standing on a point discussing goals when I felt a sudden pain on my right hand. I looked down to find a yellow jacket giving me all he had. Unfortunately he had friends. Made it out of there with 7 stings.

I successfully rid my hornets nest without any stings, and I haven’t seen any new ones anywhere. I do have an enclosed deer stand about 50 yards away, I have been hoping they haven’t moved into it.

No experience with a nest like that but a few years ago we were cutting down a tree. As I was dragging the limbs into the woods I uncovered a yellow jackets nest in the ground. 23 stings later I called it a day. Felt like I had the flu the next day and was a little off for about a week. My brother sent me this picture.

I absolutely hate getting hit by a yellow jacket. Don’t enjoy wasp but I’ll take them any day instead of the a hole with wings.

Who knew people collected these things. I come across a couple every year. If you get a ground nest sevin powder works great. Just dump a bunch on the hole and they will all be dead in a couple hours. I was allergic to yellow jackets and white faced hornets as a kid. After years of shots I don’t think I still am but I still kill everyone I see.

I had one of those paper wasp nests in a spruce tree two weeks ago. I went back to the cabin and came back with my 12 gauge loaded with #8 shot. One pull of the trigger and the nest was taken care of. I don't believe in bringing a can of spray to a wasp fight.
