Volunteer beans in clover plot

cbw

5 year old buck +
I have a food plot that was planted to commercial soy beans last year and not harvested. I sprayed a mix of 2,4D and Gly a couple weeks ago. Got a good kill on most plants. Last night drilled in a mix of clovers/chickory with a nurse crop of black oats (from Vitalize Seeds). While drilling, I noticed a bunch of volunteer beans poking through. Right now, I'm planning on letting them come, and mow them, if they become an issue. Any other suggestions on how to handle?

I would encourage the beans and not mow. jmo

That's a great problem to have!

Those beans will act as a nurse crop for your clover/chicory, so I would let them grow and mature. When they mature and drop their leaves in the fall, the clover/chicory will take off. I wouldn't mow them.

Depending on your deer density, they may never be a problem. I would leave them as well.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! I wasn't sure if the beans would crowd out the clover. Doesn't sound like that's a concern. Thanks!
