Triple seven muzzle loader

I am hunting elk with a muzzle loader this week. I plan on not cleaning it until after season or I harvest one.

I shot it three times then loaded it.

Am I asking for trouble in barrel corrosion?

Sounds like a bad idea. I never let mine go more than a few days before cleaning it.

Triple seven pellets or powder? The black vs grey side of the pellet is actual black powder for easier ignition.

Easy to clean. A few wet patches of water or better yet Windex. Then wd-40 and wipe of the excess.

I'd be more concerned about ignition reliability. I clean the breech plug with soap n water only. I use a drill bit to clean the fouling out of the hole, just twist it with my fingers. Never need a fouling pop with a extra primer.

You could moisten a patch and at least swab what you can now.

Don't wanna make noise, open the breech plug and push the load out. I do not reuse the sabot for hunting, but seems to ok during target practice.

Ok I will touch her off tomorrow.

And clean her up. I wish they allowed crossbows during muzzleloader season.

I use powder 777 FFFG.

I use a 16 ga 1 1/2 inch hypodermic aluminum hub needle to clean the nipple.

Got into a few groups of elk tracks today. The snow is only 3 days old.

The first two groups dropped into hell no! Too steep I’m not that hungry! Even at $6 hamburger.

The third group took me where I’ve never been before . I quit them as the tracks were over a day old.

Walking on the way back a group crossed the road but I didn’t get the drop on them. It was close! They were 80 yards but trotting and fell into a hell hole.

Must’ve hiked 6 miles plus.

I’m whipped!

IVe cleaned the gun if the field a few times. Good enough for a few days. A few wet patches, a dry patch or two, a little wd-40 patch then a dry patch.

Get a spare breech and put it in. Perfectly clean, no fouling shot needed.

Windex, moose milk, 20:1 water/ballistol, or just water for the wet patch.

Done that with stainless barrels and regular steel flintlock barrels too. I use goex 3f black powder, so I am more corrosive. triple seven and pyrodex is not totally clean. It's a bit different enough to prevent fire and legal issues with traditional black powder vs regular gunpowder..

I know several people who are not that good with their guns with imr white hots.

Wipe down the action and the outside of barrel too.

Windex with Vinegar is your friend. Clean rifles great, easy to apply and you can also use it like... windex.
