ok I've seen a lot about tree tubes and have decided to purchase 5ft tubes however I'm trying to decide on what to steak with. I've heard a lot about staking with PVC what size pipe do u guys use?
10ft x 1/2 inch cut in 2 pieces I don't know if you can use with 5ft tubes but you should because your tubing will end up a ft from top of tube.My only issue with conduit was that my tubes wanted to slip around the side. This can be prevented by putting dirt around bottom of tube. This also helps if you are going to water trees, but not really feasible if you are doing alot

Some guys use them. I prefer PVC because it bends in the wind. Young trees need to have stress on the trunk so it does not become brittle. I cut a 10' piece at a sharp angle with a radial arm saw. My soil is mostly clay and I use a larger heavy duty piece of PVC with a cap like a post-hole driver to keep them from bending when I pound them in. It works well for me. However, if I had a different soil situation, I may consider EMT like some others.
If cost is no option, the fiberglass stakes that you can get with the Plantra tubes work pretty well. I got a couple with a package of trees I got but didn't think the cost was worth it given the high number of trees I'm planting. If I was only planting a few, I'd probably use them.
I use 1/2" emt. I hit a 10' stick right in the center 2-3 times with chisel end of my 5lb sledge to flatten, bend it a few times till it breaks and that gives it a point to drive into ground. I pound them down so they are an inch or two below my 5' Plantra tubes so the trees don't get bark rubbed off by stake when the winds blowing.
I use 1/2" emt exclusively to stake my tubes since our soil is mostly rock and I can't drive pvc into it. I love the emt, lasts forever. 10' cut into 2 pieces (I use an old blade on the chop saw), $1 a piece. I have used wood but they eventually rot and fall over. Won't ever use anything again except emt.
