Tomato's- cages or stakes

Any one have a preference? The store cages are never big enough and staking them is starting to get on my nerves now too. What do you guys use?

Never thought of that Stu. Do you bend them in a circle to make a cage or just put them flat tie them up to it?

My parents use to take that wire they put in with Cement and make heavy duty cages. They took up a lot of room though. Were way better than the store ones.

I use hog panels for my snap peas and green beans. Nice easy pickin from either side.

I use cages for 'maters.... never thought of a hog panel for them. I am a bit confused how a hog panel would be better. Maters arent vining/grabbing plants.

I don't grow too many tomato plants...I think I have 15 right now. I drove 6' oak stakes about 18" into the garden bed about 16" apart and drove the Same amount into ground directly across the bed from those. I tie lines of jute twine from stake to steak about every 8-10" up the stakes. I then take tradition tomato steaks and stake each plant as needed. The jute just gives them something to lean on and I don't need to tie the plants off to the stakes more than once.
