Part of what make “Used To Love Her” “work” is how cheerful it sounds. As if from the point of view of a completely crazy person. That song makes me completely uncomfortable. Seen too much of that kind of stuff to write it off as art. But the fact that it has that reaction speaks to the power of the song. AND, Welcome To The Jungle was an album released at a time when music was consumed not as individual songs but as a part of a bigger thing. MY GAWD, that was a great album.
And it was actually Bob Marley that shot the sheriff but didn’t shoot the deputy! Eric Clapton was just a copycat, lol.
One of the darkest songs I know is “Hey Joe” by Jimi Hendrix. Not only does he kill his lover but it is implied that his friend was in a position to stop him…. And doesn’t. At least thats my take. What is worse? Who is more wrong in that deal? I still really enjoy that song, especially the live Woodstock version.
I struggle with Ted. I really enjoy him on stage, he’s a great player. I mean, he is 1000% the real deal. Saw him shoot 3-4 flaming arrows on stage. And loved it. Think the Damn Yankees were completely under rated. But when I hear him talk he comes off as too extreme for my personal taste. I just don’t care for that.
Stranglehold is one of the great songs of 70’s rock and roll. Oh man, but those lyrics ain’t great either….
I think you always have to remember that you can’t judge something from 1975 through a 2025 lens.

Yep, my point is you can’t base a song or lyrics as real life . A local hair band called Slave Raider (MN legend) used to sing a song called Youngblood … sweet sixteen & never been kissed. It was very popular & they were not pedophiles, it was a story about a guy that got in trouble for dating a 16 yr old ….

My late brother in law sold meat from a freezer in the back of his truck. Early 90’s. Had quite a business and it was restaurant quality individually vacuum sealed cuts. Good stuff.
Uncle Ted was one of his customers. Said that Ted told him he only ate venison and game but he always wanted to have meat on hand for party’s, guests and such. Said he was like the most normal dude you could ever talk to, and he had a couple of the zebra painted Scouts at the time and you would see him on the road and in town.
Maybe it’s just his public persona. I’d love to talk to him.

They were awesome on stage. Ted was somehow both the dead center of attention but also managed to not be. What a badass guitar slinger. They also did a series of flood relief concerts in ‘93 and donated all the proceeds. Great dudes right there.

Met Sweaddy Teddy in Canada the last yr they allowed spring Ontario bear hunts. It was also a fly out base for fishing camps besides the bear hunts. We were just waiting for our second group of guys to get flown back before driving home.
Uncle Ted was riding copilot in the "honey wagon" (beater truck they used for running bear baits) when we met him. The camp manager introduced us and we told him about the damn bear we had in camp that week tearing stuff up. His response "Figures, damn fisherman are seeing all the bears" Musta been slow for them.
The camp manager did relate we missed a hell of good time the night before with Ted doing some rock and roll with the small group at their base camp.
